I did a search about this, but didnt really find a concrete answer. I recently discovered flac, and almost all my music is now flac. The ps3 plays them they show up as pcm. Im wondering if in tversity I should select the transcode option, or just leave it as is.

I really dont know what transcode does, or if i should turn it on or off, with tversity when streaming flac audio files, can someone specify.

Thanks.

If you're hearing music, Tversity is transcoding. The PS3 doesn't recognize FLAC. Just make sure you are transcoding to WAV, not mp3.

Set transcoding to "Only when necessary". That way when you have files that the PS3 can decode they will simply stream to your PS3. When you try to play a file the PS3 doesn't recognize Tversity will transcode it into a format the PS3 does recognize on the fly and stream it. Your computer does need to have the proper codecs to recognize a format before it can transcode it into something the PS3 will recognize. I recommended downloading CCCP, it seems to be the most comprehensive codec pack out there and should cover all your bases.

The problem is that TVersity is sometimes kinda stupid about what needs to be transcoded. As for music, I only have MP3 and WAV, so there's no problem there.. but TVersity used to try to transcode all of my video into MP4, regardless of whether it was in a format the PS3 could read (DivX, etc). It didn't take me long to simply tell TVersity to never transcode anything under any circumstances. If my PS3 can't play it, then I guess I'm stuck watching it on my PC. Not a big loss, since we're talking maybe 1% of my video files.

Funny, I've had the exact opposite problem. Tversity sometimes thinks my PS3 can play a file that it actually can't so it doesn't bother transcoding. I had every episode of Firefly in .mkv and I had to turn transcoding to "Always" to get it to play. It's not a very common problem so I just set transcoding to "When Nessacary" and if a file won't play I switch it to "Always".
