Hello,

Great forum!  This question is only regarding noise coming in from above a basement.  If you were to apply DD+GG to the top plates of your walls while constructing them would this negate the need for DD+GG on the walls themselves?   I threw up a jpg of a few options.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

So what you want to do is just "put a lid on it".

Couple of assumptions to make this work

1) the perimeter of the lid is sealed 360 degrees to all the foundation walls with acoustical sealant. Is your room that big that it reaches all the foundation walls?

2) the foundation wall doesn't transmit sound, concrete can be an excellent conductor. what is your foundation?

The foundation wall is 8" poured concrete and I would go around the perimeter and seal to the drywall.
