Flashes and Video Lights for HDR-XR500V

I had a SR11 but it was stolen so I then replaced it with a XR500.

My question is about the various video lights available. I noticed with my SR11 the low light / indoor performance was sub-sucky and I got a lot of red eyes with human subjects. I am looking at several video lights and a couple of combo flash/video lights. My primary concern is that I don't want a spotlight. I want a nice evenly diffused light source that can attatch to the camera. Perhaps the use of a filter is needed given the limited range of lights available? Is there an aftermarket light that is available and not SONY?
