Upon extensive Searches throughout the Forums, I feel there's a NEED FOR A DEDICATED THREAD FOR THE DISCUSSION OF FLAT PANEL WALL MOUNTING TECHNIQUES, MOUNT TYPES, MOUNT REVIEWS, AND MOUNT TWEAKS. Searches throughout the Forums will lead readers to many valuable posts on this topic - but they're currently distributed widely throughout the Forums and perhaps this new post will serve to consolidate the info.

Please limit your posts/replies to the stated topic(s) aimed at helping new/prospective flat panel owners on the methods and products available to help them find the optimum solution to their wall mount needs and desires.

Looking for a tilt mount suitable for a 42-50 inch plasma that really hugs the wall. Dimensions, quality comments, and assembly ease on any of the following would be appreciated: Sanus, Peerless, Omnimount, Premiere, Chief, Ergotron, Voegel, Viewpoint, Mustang...ad infinitum. Target tv is Panny TH-42PX60U or TH-50PX60U. Target location is over the fireplace.
I want to mount a flat panel above a fireplace made of hollow concrete blocks. Intend to use cavity in each block to run cabling for video, audio and power so that its separated from the flue cavity by the back surface of the blockwork.

Q1: Do I need to run the cabling in a conduit within the cavity of each block? Will it be sufficiently insulated?

Q2: Power outlet and A/V cabling to be hidden behind flat panel - what is best location - bottom, middle or top?

Q3: What is best wall plate for A/V terminals, given the conduit, (if used) may need to be up to 2" for DVI?
I'm currently building out my wall in the den to 10" wider. This will incorporate a 65" Panny that will be recessed back INTO the wall. The face of the Panny will end up being 1/2" to 3/4" from the finish wall face. Ya, I know but I want the plasma to be flush with the wall instead of haning on the wall. Cool factor, high.

Questions are: Are there any concerns regarding heat build up?

Service issues to recessed mounting ?

Anything else unforseen, ideas?

Thought this is a great thread to post this info. I did purchase the "Peerless" flush mount bracket rated for that size Panny. It's nicely built and looks like it can handle the job with ease.

Thanks for the help!

The Owner's Manual states:

"Do not cover the ventilation holes. Doing so may cause the Plasma TV to overheat, which can cause fire or damage to the Plasma TV. If using the pedestal, leave a space of 3 15/16†(10 cm) or more at the top, left and right, 2 3/8†(6 cm) or more at the bottom, and 2 3/4†(7 cm) or more at the rear."

There's no other information so nothing pertinent to your specific installation plan.

Q1: You may want to contact the building inspector for your area first. Some places may not let you penetrate the cavity of your chimney. Better check first.

Q2: Some mounts have spaces cut out for the power and AV cables to dress through. Pick a mount and go from there.

Q3: There are many wall plates available. Depends on how much jack you want to spend and how nice you want it to look.

Dilemma.

I was considering a Peerless st-660 to mount a Panny TH42-PX60U above the fireplace with a seated 9 foot viewing distance. I trig'd out some angles and determined:

- I need 17+ degrees of downward tilt to get perfect perpindicular alignment to the viewer's line of sight

- even with the Peerless's max 15 degrees of downward tilt, the top front edge of the tv would extend out 10.8 [inches] from the wall behind it - making for a rather unsightly looking installation

- this location/installation would also be seen regularly from the side (exposing the mount, etc) due to the shape of the room - aesthetically an eyesore.

Plan B is ???

I have a Sanus VMPL2 for a Pio 50" plasma. Very well-built/sturdy steel construction. Low profile (1.25" from wall when flat-mounted) . Flexible mounting hardware to accomodate different surfaces and TVs. Has a bracket to set a fixed 5 degree downward tilt if you need it (other models have adjustable tilt, which adds depth though). Can slide the TV horizontally along the bracket if needed (e.g. if studs aren't perfectly centered). All you really need is a good level, drill and socket set.

Although you've probably already seen it, the following thread probably has answered most of your questions. A lot of the difficulties people have are how & where to run wiring in-wall & how to surge protect.:

Help. I am considering mounting a pioneer Elite in the center of an 8' by 10' wall unit. This wall unit will have a shelf across the top to hold the center channel.

My question is, how much space do I need above my TV to be able to lift and hang it in place using a fixed wall mount.

I don't think I need to spend the extra money on an articulated arm as the TV will be at a decent viewing height.

I have been told that I need about 6" in clearance to lift the hooks up and over the bar of the bracket.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I want to mount a 32 inch LCD in my bedroom. From what I have seen in most of the discussions, the center of the display should be at eye height. However in the bedroom sometimes you stand and sometimes you lie down. How have other people dealt with this problem?
I'll post the link to the guys I'd recommend. They are american built and they still cost less then Sanus and the other guys you'll pick up in a box store.

Great quality - well built units but most importantly for less.

Check them out and PM me if you want to know of a cheap reseller (which is where I bought mine from at 1/2 the cost of normal store).

Go with height of the most used viewing location. You can split the difference between standing and laying down, but make sure it's comfortable at the prime watching position.

Plan your cabling and AC outlet location carefully.
Does anyone know which mount will work for a Sharp LC-52D62U -- universal or vesa-mount? I cannot find this information anywhere and not sure if some flat panels have non-standard bolt patterns.
I ordered a low profile wall mount made by Ergotron which is on Sharp's list of wall-mount resellers. Sharp doesn't sell mounts directly. I ordered one of these and it was taking forever to come in from this weaselly online store so I ordered another one from a more reputable online store. (I thought I got jacked from the first one.) Needless to say now I have two of them.

I was very impressed with the quality and specifically, the ease of Ergotron's installation and extremely well-written instructions. Most installation or assembly instruction manuals are ambiguous or contain fuzzy details. This was a breeze to install and it included a lot of alternate hardware (screw sizes, spacers, etc.) for different display types.

Actually installing the mount and hanging the tv was the easiest part of the process. Routing the cables behind the wall and installing an in-wall surge protector was a different story, however.

Does anyone want to buy my extra Ergotron WM Low Profile wall mount for large displays (42 - 60")? I will either try to return it to the manuf or put it on eBay. Its in the unopened delivered box.
