With my current CCFL LCD the backlight flickers (almost imperceptibly) when set to less than 100%, which causes some eye strain for me. I would like the backlight level reduced for evening viewing, since it's too bright otherwise. I am guessing that all CCFL LCDs will flicker with the backlight reduced so I'm looking into LED LCDs.

Are there any LED-LCDs (46"+) which do not use PWM for dimming? I know that there are several such PC monitors now.

I too would be very interested in an answer to this question. There are so many pseudo high frame rate technologies that manufacturers use now and many of them sound quite problematic to those of us who are sensitive to flicker. I am assuming i need to stick with a direct lit (no local dimming) 60 hz set.
