I decided to rewire my receiver and components (NON-HD)...I disconnected the opt. cable from the DVD VCR combo...the optical imput's `tab' broke now I have NO digital output from the combo! This was the first time I ever disconnected it!

I have repeatedly disconnected my SA 8300 HD-DVR optical with no problem!

Anyone else have this problem with Panasonic dvd players or combos??

Nope, never had that problem. If you are referring to the cover on the optical input connector cocket on the player its not really needed and will work just fine without it. If its stuck inside the socket you could use tweers or needle-nosed pilers to remove it.

it broke off,fell inside then out...the optical won't lock into place now.

try the thinnest tweezers you have - or try your hand at (minor) disassembly.

It fell out....now it just sits in the slot and won't stay...either way I'm upgradging soon so it won't be that bad....movies are a joke through stereo RCAs though!

Can you not use the digital coax output instead? Same audio as the digital optical out.
