Floorstanders too short

Hi

If my floorstanders are a bit too short for the listening position, do you think i can put it on a wooden platform (see attached pic for eg, where the sub is)? Would it affect the sound? The spikes may damage the wooden platform so i will probably use spike pads or discs.

Since you've got the speakers and the platform, might as well give it a try. The platform itself should have no effect on the sound.

What speakers are they?
There are no floorstanders in the pic?!

I think it was just a photo he was using as an example of having things up on a wooden platform.
Just small wood blocks under each floorstander to raise them a little could also work well.

You could (within reason) put them on platform. For reference, is the picture provided your actual setup?
Thanks all. No, the pic is not my set up. Just something I found online to illustrate the point.
Cut the legs off your couch. 😏

Most floor standers have spikes; just adjust the front spikes so they are higher than the rear spikes.
Just get some short speaker stands (Google). Putting a large speaker on a piece of furniture will, more than likely, induce some nasty and audible resonances.

What are your floorstanders, again?

For my Q750s, I used couch legs (of all things) to raise them up closer to ear level:

Im precisely thinking of getting the Q750! I’m not the only one thinking it is a bit short, I can see !

Spikes are usually removable; just unscrew them from the bottom of the towers.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with elevating your towers. The only possible disadvantage would be if you were running them full range (no sub) then elevating MIGHT result in slightly less mid-bass output, but nothing really dire.

I have used milk crates for my JBL 570s before, and currently use these Ikea nightstands for my surrounds (JBL Arena 170) with zero problems:

One other consideration. Perhaps the manufacturer purposely left the speakers short in order to maximize the sound quality. That may actually be the better position from which to listen. I would test the theory with some books or magazines or boxes and see how the sound differs, before investing in stands.

I had to raise it up because I got a new couch less than a year ago, and it has us sitting about 3 inches higher, putting the tweeters a bit too low at its default height. I would lower them back again if the seating height changes.
Don't some people recommend building a box and filling it with a sand/sawdust mixture?

One can do that but for floor standers that are not playing full range crossed over to a sub may not require an "inert" riser.
