Focal Aria 948 vs Klipsch RF-7 III

Newbie to the 2.0 game and a first time (soon to be - it's being shipped right now) tube amp owner, I am looking to get some guidance on the speakers to run for my set up. I am waiting on my PrimaLuna Evo 300 Integrated amp to arrive. I currently have a pair of Def Tech Mythos STLs that I will run with this but plan on moving those down to my HT set up and want to replace them with either set of speakers. Really had my heart seat on Focal but I started getting suggestions from people to take a look at the RF-7 III. They are about half the cost and on paper they seem to be a really competitive buy. Can I get some thoughts / feedback from the forum? Thanks!

How happy are you with your Mythos' sound signature for music?

The Focal Aria will give you a very different sound signature.

The RF7ii will be similar to the DTs, but do it much better.

Thanks for the feedback! I will say, I do like the sound of the mythos but feel they would be better suited for my surround system - I had a pair of Boston Acoustic VR 950s before them and I feel as if they are a similar type of sound. I think the signature of the Focals would be something that I may be yearning for - almost a much different sounding beast. I would eventually pair the 948s with a REL T/9x which I think would take care of the punch on the low end.

The amp doesn't have the minimum recommended power for the Focals.

They recommend a minimum of 50 watts into 8 ohms, the amp has these hard to decipher specs.

Power
Ultra-linear
42 watts x 2 (EL34)
(8Ω, 1% THD)
Power
Triode
24 watts x 2 (EL34)
(8Ω, 1% THD)

The Focals would definitely be closer to your old BA speakers than the Klipsch.

Two other candidates you may want to consider if you want a contrasting sound signature from your DTs would be Emotiva and Wharfedale Evo speakers. The latter are available from Crutchfield with their wonderful $10/pr flat rate return shipping policy ($75/pr for towers).
I'll just say, the Klipsch RF-7 III's are the best sounding speakers I have ever owned, and it's not close.

Unless you tell us what you've owned, your statement doesn't mean much.

Good point. 🤣
You need highly-sensitive speakers. The RF-7iii would be far easier to drive than the Focals with that amp.
If you want to spend more for full-range high-sensitivity speakers, then many people with tube and SET amps use Tekton speakers: Affordable Hi-Fi Loudspeakers | Tekton Design

Except that the Tektons aren't really high sensitivity. Like Klipsch, they fudge their sensitivity. Check out Stereophile's review of one of their "high sensitivity" models.
The quote from Stereophile's review of the Impact Monitor Speaker: "My estimate of the Impact's sensitivity was 87.5dB(B)/2.83V/m, considerably lower than the specified 94dB."

87db is not high sensitivity.

Ahhhh, nice. I spent a nice couple of hours with that into Monitor Audio Silver 300 at Upscale Audio; the Focal 936 we bought was run from PrimaLuna separates. Yeah never mind the power spec, I had those MA blasting Iron Maiden and Motorhead. What did you end up getting?
