For My Gf: Highschool Musical 2 or Phantom of the Opera?

1740 Views 22 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  mumbles3k
She likes both, but she said only 1 for now, cuz Im yet to get my PS3 very soon, but Ill order in Amazon now cuz of the BR movie prices. Do know shipping here is high cuz Im from the Philippines. Thats why she said only 1 first. She loves both movies but she wants the one with the best PQ. To those who experienced these movies, which is better?

MANY THANKS!

At launch of the formats, I always heard Phantom of the Opera was great PQ and AQ. Not sure if thats still the consensus since obviously we've come very far. I have not seen either, but I know if I was forced to pick one under pain of death, I'd go for Phantom of the Opera.
Me too. But my girl wants HSM2 also! lol. I wish shell just pick Phantom, but hey, she cant stop me from getting Dawn of the Dead, so Ill be fair... lol
I was going to suggest that if your GF is under 16, get her High School Musical 2 and if she's over 20, get her Phantom of the Opera. I have yet to find anything that works for 17-19 year-olds.

She is 19 actually. lol. She seen both. And LOVES both a lot. I told her that HSM2 is for tweens, she told me that I even watch Spongebob! So I guess I cant complain! lol

I am substantially over 20, but I find HSM2 immensely more enjoyable than POTO.
OK thanks guys!

And I keep letting her watch horror movies(cuz she lets me watch love movies), but lately, she will just close her eyes and keep singing to herself. She cant take all the biting and blood anymore. lol. And she now hates zombies.

Wife likes Phantom. Dtrs, early 20's, probably a draw, one likes highschool musical more than Phantom, one likes Phantom more than Highschool. Both like both movies, just not equally. Did you consider Hairspray?

Both of my dtr's like it alot. And it sounds great. The hd sound track is amazing.

The audio track on Phantom, at least the one I have, is not hd audio. It sounds great and all. PQ is amazing. Not sure about HM2.

HSM2 has uncompressed audio, LPCM.

IMO, Hairspray is a piece of. . .

Please refrain from ever admitting that outloud or on this forum!

I have no hesitation expressing unpopular opinions.

BTW, if you're format neutral, get Phantom on HD-DVD. That one has a Dolby TrueHD track.

No no. Don't let her comfort herself man! That's YOUR job! Dang these young lads don't know nuthin.....

LOL. I used to. But rather not, she will cry like when watching the Grudge; afterwhich she will threaten to not watch anymore of my movies.

Yes I have the "Beta" version and it has an excellent TrueHD track (although it is about 6dB too low). Doesnt the BD only have DD?

Patrick,

Its not about popular or unpopular. Its about man law! Have you heard any of the Budweiser Beer commercials that are for this guy or that guy, like the Handle Bar Moustache guy, speedo guy, etc.? I think I'll write one for men who enjoy Highschool Musical.....

No, I haven't seen those commercials. In any event, I generally prefer imported beer.

Btw, is it more acceptable to like POTO or Hairspray?

You know the saying "if you have to ask...."

At least in Phantom there are fight sword scenes, babes galore. Hairspray without a doubt is not on the man law list. And with what's his name being mr. sixpack in 300, well I'd say Phantom gets some slack....

I don't know, based on my recollection, the music numbers in POTO in the underground caverns seemed pretty out there. . .
meh, I like HSM (but not HSM2... to bad the former is not available on BD), POTO and Hairspray. Next stop... Mamma Mia!
I have both. I prefer HSM2 for both sound and picture quality. Both are good though in video. Audio on HSM2 is lossless. Don't remember that on Phantom but maybe it was my player didn't do it yet.
