For QuadScan Pro expert users! (component input)

661 Views 13 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Baggy
Hello can anyone help me,

I'm an owner of the Quadscan Pro, desktop version 2.55. I've a Dvd player Sony DVPNS900V (european version, without progressive output) and a Electrohome ECP 4101 projector.

When I use the component output from dvd to Quadscan I see an image very dark. Otherwise the image produced using the Svideo output is sharper...but, you know, Svideo!

My questions are:

- is the Quadscan inputs Y-Pb-Pr compatible with the Dvd player output Y-Cb-Cr?

- is it the voltage dvd component output compatible with the Quadscan. The component dvd player output voltage is: Y: 1,0 Vp-p and Cb Cr: 0,7 Vp-p (75 Ohm, negativ sinchro?)

- reading the instruction of the Quadscan, I read about a "Component Level Selections" (pag. 16, point 3.1) but I didn't find this control in the Quadscan setup menu. Why? and what does it mean Smtp and Beta component signal level?

Thank you for your help, it's very important for me to make the best regulation of my system and now it's reallly to dark.

Ciao, Ippolito

Manually set your inputs to either s-video or component on the front panel. This will now add brightness to the menu options, check your brightness levels.

Yes, of course.

I've used the QS Pro for two years and I've never encountered your problem. What I can suggest you is to check the 75 Ohm termination of the inputs form the menu and you will notice a change in the brightness.

Ciao, Luca.

You have one of the first version QuadScans if you have a smpte and beta color table choice in the menu.
Thank you to all.

To Jon S:

the problem is not on the brightness of the menu but of the image on the screen. I set manually the input, but choosing the component (A or B) the brightness goes down on my screen.

To Luca:

with termination switched off, the image is sharper and with more brightness but incorrect, I mean, it seems solarized, burned, extra exposed!

To Shaun:

I've the 2.55 version of the Quadscan and I can't see the option in the menu. I wrote to you (Focus) and they told me to update the hardware/software to version 2.56J...but my local distributor (Microtask)doesn't know this version of update and wrote to you to ask more details!

Ippolito, it is strange that Microtask doesn't know about the 2.56 firmware update because they did it for my QS.

Luca
Luca, you told me something really interesting about the italian Focus distributor Microtask.

Maybe the 2.56J and the 2.56 update are different (please help me Shaun...).

Did you pay something for this, how long it takes to make the job?

If you think we are going out of thread, you can write me an email.

Yes there is a difference. 2.56J is the Japanese NTSC version. Japanese standard NTSC black level is 0 IRE and our NTSC standard is 7.5 IRE.

Ok, but I generally use Pal. So I think the 2.56 version is good. Thank you!
Luca,Ippolito,

Hi Guys

What model number Pro are you using?

Are these the same as Alan is currently selling (SKU-444-5524,SKU 444-5520).

These sound like bargains and I was wondering how they work with PAL.

Kevin, I don't use it any more and I've sold it out. Now I've upgraded to a VC1280 with SDI.

Cheerriioo.

Luca
Luca,

Thanks anyway

Lets presume it was the same model.

How did it work with PAL when you had it?

I want something to use for watching Satellite (Sky).

Cheers

Kevin, the QS Pro firmware I used was 2.56 with the board modified by Mike Parker. It was really nice even with sat material but the Vc 1280 is on another planet.

Consider that the QS Pro was limited to 50Hz with Pal and 60 with NTSC whilst the Vc 1280 offers, at your choice, 60, 90 e 120 Hz for Ntsc and 50,75, 100 hz for Pal.

Anyway I still consider the QS one of - if not the - best Qaulity-Price ratio upconverter on the market.

Best Regards.

Luca,

Unfortunately the 1280 is beyond my reach right now.

You have helped though, so thanks for your input.
