? for the audio guru's

266 Views 6 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  GTEdwards
I just completed the install of my Zenith DVB-318. Now, every time a DVD starts, there is a loud popping sound from the sub just before the commencement of the audio. After the loud popping/cracking sound, the audio plays perfectly, it's just annoying and startling to my family and guests.

Any suggestions as to what may be causing this?

Thanks!

It is probably your subwoofer turning itself on upon recognizing a signal. What subwoofer and sub-amp are you using and what receiver/pre-pro do you use?
The sub is a Cambridge Soundworks Basscube 12, and Receiver/processor is a Sony ES series DA - 880 (i think?). I didn't have this issue when I was using my JVC DVD player, and it only started after installing the DVB-318.
How is the audio form the DVD player sent to the Receiver?

Digital (optical, coax) or Analogue (RCAx2 or RCAx6)
DVD audio is sent via digital optical to the receiver, and out of the receiver to the sub via a single RCA type cable.
This is the same connection as the preceding DVD player?
Yep, same connection as previous DVD player.

Now that I think about it, there was one change in connections through this process. The single RCA cable from the receiver out to the sub was split and connected to the left & right channel connections on the sub, rather than just being connected to either the L or R connection on the sub. Could this be an issue?
