For those with money to spend

Since you can never have enough storage space, I thought I would take a look at what was available for the SA 8300 if money were not an object. Of course, it always is but the following is interesting in that at least it shows there are ways to present multiple drives as a single unit to a DVR.

EDIT: It seems new members cannot post URL's until they post 5 times to prevent spam, so Lacie has an external drive model available in either 1TB or 2TB capacity with a SATA 1 interface for the low, low price of $$1,699.00 for the 1TB model and only $3,199.00 for the 2TB model. Buy two and give one as a present to your friend! :D

Back to reality, I added a 200GB SATA drive to our SA 8300SD box and it worked very well even though Brighthouse technical support said they did not support it. As soon as everything powered on, a message came on asking if I wanted to format the drive for use with the DVR and it took about 30 seconds for the drive format to complete.

Drive space went from 28% to 4% and I calculate I should get about 175 hours of standard recording time with the addition of the drive.

It is great to know the SA 8300 is expandable without having to go through a lot of hassle.
