I was just checking out HTiB setups at BB.com. They showed 33 available. So then I click "without DVD" {as I just bought a cheap little Samsung upconverting DVD player, and even it is only temporary, until I get my Blu-Ray or PS3} and Bam ! It goes from 33 choices with DVD, to 1 without ! A cheap little Bose setup :-(

Heck, to be honest, I wish I could buy a 5 speaker setup, without a DVD player OR a subwoofer..... as like I said, I already have the DVD player, "and" none of the HTiB setups have a subwoofer that I think is going to impress me. You have to know that for several years, I had a 900 watt system in the cab of a Chevy S-10 pickup.

I'll probably end up spending more than I wanted to, but I'm thinking that the only way to get away from DVD players that I don't need, or subwoofers that don't cut it, is to go to seperates, huh ?

Will do some browsing on that forum section now.

Peace,

Depends on your budget. Their is quite a few offerings for a quality budget receiver at or under $200. The onkyo 504 would be my first choice. Then a speaker system like the vedolyne cht front row system for $200 and add the Bic H-100 sub $200. Total $600

Or you could go for the Onkyo 790 HTIB linked below for $329 which includes a rebaged Onkyo 504 receiver, same thing but different model numbef for the htib system. It includes a powered sub and speakers which won't be of the same quality as the above system but if they don't satisfy you, you can always ebay the speakers and sub as a package and build the above listed system or equivilant for about the same price total.

Whatever you do, if you do go the HTIB route stick with Onkyo or Yamaha as they include quality receivers, equivilant to their seperate receivers in quality and performance which makes them worth building around.

Hey Jerkin, okay, I went there again..... 33 choices with DVD..... clicked the "without DVD" circle to the left.... Bam ! 1 choice... the $149 Bose set up. Not sure where you are seeing these choices on BB.com ???

Hello Jakeman02. I guess if I'm going to go with the "vedolyne cht front row system for $200" I better get jumping, huh ? You know they are being discontinued, right ? In fact, I don't think Velodyne will be replacing their surround sound speakers either. Apparently they are going to just stick with subs. Speaking of which, I sure like this sub: http://www.velodyne.com/velodyne/pro...9&sid=627g980l The 12" would be awesome !

Or what the hey.... how about this one ? http://www.velodyne.com/velodyne/pro...3&sid=627g980l Think I'll get two of them :)

Seriously though, I appreciate the advice, and will keep it in mind.

The speakers with this HTiB are pretty darn big (space robbing for a small room) and lots of silver color involved.... but it has gotten excellent reviews !

I sure like the look (all black) price, and size of the speakers of this Sony..... but it didn't get near the ratings as the Yamaha above (on C-Net) In fact, one guy returned this exact set, for the Yamaha above, and said it was night and day better....

But anyway, I think I am really leaning back towards this HTiB:

One question about it though....... Say I get it, and the bass doesn't quite do it for me, could I add one of these to this set up later ? (remember, this sub is powered, and the one with the Onkyo is not....)

Starting to get fired up again over here :)

Chris, the 790 you linked to does have a powered sub, it's the 590 that has a passive sub. there's a pretty big thread here on the 790. Check it out, everyone that has one seems to be happy with them. You can go to CC and hear it for yourself.

I just realized that I was looking at the Onkyo which was the next step up.... with the powered sub.... and can still get it for like $400 !!!! Speakers are a bit big..... but at least they are black :) This HTiB sounds like a great value ! Great reviews too.

Now I think it's a done deal.

Much thanks again,

Fish
