The CalMAN HTPC Test Pattern Generator is free to download and use. This is not a limited use or limited feature version, it is our full blown HTPC pattern generator.

CalMAN HTPC Test Pattern Generator

It has 51 base patterns with the ability to change most of the settings on each of them, also many of them are animated.

No the patterns are generated in real time on the PC.

This is a nice functional pattern generator, the only question I have is if this program aware of the .icm color profiles for the displays like how photoshop would be? Since if it is not, windows assumes all displayed colors sRGB by default and so bt709 colors will line-up with sRGB but SMPTE might not like how images in a image editor will not match the color of the same image in a browser.

Since it is designed for HTPC use, ICC/ICM profiles were outside of what we included in design. What we wanted to build was a tool that could decouple the GPU rendering end from the playback software. We can explore the ICC/ICM functionality, but I'm not aware of any HTPC tools that use a standards-based profile (MPC has its own matrix/script?).

Since the pattern generator works in pure RGB, the standards assumptions really aren't that important if you are using DVI or HDMI between the PC and your TV.

You may want to start with this thread:

The application is designed to complement our software, and to act as a replacement for similar software published by other companies that we thought was, well, deficient.
You can also download our demo application which includes information on how to use the HTPC generator with CalMAN (if you are using another package, you should be able to translate our steps into what would be required from your package).

Bill,

Where do I find your demo application ? I've looked over the CalMAN website several times and I don't see it.

BTW, the HTPC pattern generator is fantastic !!! Can't wait to find the time to give it a try. I'm seriously tempted to step up to the i1 Pro but I am still in the practice and learning phase. I am also curious about the Chroma 5 colorimeter. Will it be in the same ballpark as the i1 Pro in terms of performance and price ?

Thanks !!!

We have all the current and updated specs and information on our new website www.SpectraCal.com here is the download link to CalMAN V3.0.1 . By the end of the week www.CalMAN.tv will just redirect to www.SpectraCal.com

The Chroma5 performance is a bit better than the Display2 and right up with the i1Pro. It is much faster than the i1Pro and does not need a dark cal to start with. We have talked about pricing but I don't think Bill is quite ready to announce it yet but it will be less than the i1Pro for just the meter itself.

The Chroma 5 is a special order item for us right now, so we are really focusing on only selling it with our "Pro Starter Kit" for the moment. Once I get some clarity on a few supply issues, we'll post a price on it.

If you have the patience to create a very elaborate menu system then id assume yes you can convert it to DVD , as far as capturing all the paterns in the program it wouldnt take you more than an hour if that , heres 1 i captured .

Please correct me if im wrong

And also the fact that getting those .jpg to DVD without messing things up is harder than it seems...

Bill I haven't had time to test this out yet. With your generator, is it pretty much guaranteed that the correct RGB gets sent to the TV regardless of your computer setup?
