Hi All,

I apologize if this has been covered elsewhere. Are there free calibration test patterns available on the Net which can be downloaded and then burned to a DVD, to be used on an SD DVD player? Obviously, I have an HDTV, but not an HD DVD or Blu-Ray player. I went to the MPEG2 site ; are there "non" HD DVD calibration test patterns there as well? If so, which ones should I use?

Does anyone know of any other "free" sites where one can get patterns to calibrate an HDTV using a SD DVD player? I don't have a PC I can hook up to my HDTV.

Thank you!

If you have HDNet, they broadcast test patterns every Saturday morning at 10:00 EST:

10:00 AM ET 7:00 AM PT HDNet Test Patterns

Wonder how your home theatre is doing? Wish you had test patterns to help set it up? Well, HDNet is here to help. This short program will help you get the most out of your home theatre setup by providing you with the same professional test patterns HDNet uses to set their gear. If this time isn't convenient, I suppose you could alway record them for later use.

Thank you; much appreciated. I did take a look at that this morning. However, something that could be downloaded and burned to a DVD would work better for me. I could take more time getting the settings lined up.

Thank you!

I use this freebie since it has a number of other things other than basic calibration:

This is the one I used.

I have AVIA and DVE NTSC also. The AVIA's grayscale is not accurate and the DVE doesnt have all the grayscale windows I needed to calibrate it with the free HCFR software, it has the 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 only. It is missing all the odd ones, 10, 30, etc...

Hope this helps

Thanks to all for the suggestions! I used the disc "work4mike" suggested, since I don't have a meter to measure the levels, at least not yet. I just has the optical block replaced in my KDS-50A2000, so I wanted to set things back to "normal" as much as possible. The picture sure looks nice!

I probably WILL invest in a meter not too far down the road and try to fine tune it even more.

Thanks again!
