Fujitsu Plasma: Is One Dead Pixel a Crisis?

544 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  ChrisWiggles
I have a 55 inch Fujitsu plasma-- which looks excellent. I have noticed on close examination that there is one "dead pixel" which is stuck in the "on" position (flashes green). Now, from any reasonable viewing position it can hardly be seen-- and if the background isn't black, it can't be seen. I was just wondering what to make of this. I have heard that most plasma manufacturers consider a few dead pixels to be "within specifications" but I wonder what the story would be if asked people who didn't work for the company sellling the television!

Every technology has problems. You are correct that manufacturers expect dead pixels and their warranty defines how many is appropriate. Read over your warranty and see how many are acceptable before a replacement is justified (by the company).

I hate dead pixels, that's why I went with a different technology (which has it's own set of different problems).
Thanks for the response. I believe Fujitsu "allows" between 3 and 10 dead pixels, depending upon where they are and whether they are stuck "on" or "off." In my siutation, the single pixel is not really a problem because the set is pretty big (55 inch diameter) and you have to know where it is to see it. I just wanted to know if I was missing out on any recourse but I suspect not. I might imagine that if I had the unit replaced, the next would have 3 dead pixels (!)
Yes this is a crisis. There are scores of orphans dead as a result.

But seriously, unless you are within the return period (30 days or whatnot) I doubt you'd be able to get a replacement. It's not uncommon, though it's unfortunate that it's a green pixel stuck on which is the most visible. You won't see it too often, though unfortunately now that you know it's there you'll find ways to see it :(.
