I just bought a Yamaha RX-365 receiver and didn't realize that it only did HDMI pass-through and did not send the HDMI signal to the speakers. The Yamaha's digital inputs also don't match my components' outputs (stupid me), so I'm thinking of exchanging it for a slightly better model that can be hooked up just with HDMI cables. I'm not very knowledgeable about this stuff, so I'd appreciate any recs for a decent full HDMI receiver in the $250-$350 range.

I have another question that may or may not be related to the receiver. When I switch to the DVD input on the TV and receiver, the TV doesn't detect the Blu-Ray player even though the player is on and has a disc loaded. I have to eject the disc, switch the input to television, and switch it back to the BR input. Only then will it recognize a signal from the BR player. Any idea why this might be?

I appreciate any advice you can offer.

Hello. Even the more expensive x65 receivers are limited in terms of component video/digital audio connections. For example, if you need TWO optical inputs, I believe the x65 line is not for you (there are ways around this, but involve buying a conversion box.)

As for your TV and your BR player, sounds like a negotiation issue. Not much you can do about that, I think, unless there's firmware updates for the player which correct the problem. I assume you don't mean to tell me that a player connected via the Blu-ray input on your TV does not show up when you select the DVD player - I assume you mistyped somewhere.

Right, I meant to say "Blue-Ray player".

Yes, my BR player and TiVo HD have optical outputs, but the Yamaha receiver has only one optical input. Would a full HDMI receiver let me hook up everything with just HDMI cables?

MC, do they have any coaxial outputs/inputs you could use?
