i have been looking at HD-DVD and blu-ray since the came out. I didnt go with them 2nd to lack of tv's and receivers that use there abilities. I have a 1080p hdmi 1.3 tv now. I plan on getting a new receiver either onkyo or denon that have hdmi 1.3 later this year. My question is if the 2nd gen plaeyrs like the new panny and the new smasung coming out support all the capabilities they have been saying blu-ray would have such as 1080p the lossless audio, the extra content and interaction and wider gamut when the dvd's have it on them, or are these players still incapable of doing everything that possibly will be added to dvd's next year? thank for the help. I want to get one of these soon b/c i watch a lot of dvd's but i also buy for the long haul so i am willing to wait for the next gen if they are still very inferior players.

Not yet... They keep pushing back the date all players must include all functionality, especially interactive stuff.

No player today has everything you mentioned (and NO current player meets the 1.1 standard). And no player today can decode DTS HD Master Audio.

However, some players get you close, depending on how much you value those features. Unfortunately, all the players have at least one Achilles Heel (The Panasonic doesn't do 1080p/24 and lacks an ethernet port. The Samsung doesn't decode Dolby TrueHD or either DTS HD formats. The PS3 has no upconversion and no analog outs for audio.)
and none of the next gen coming out later this year promise these features? I know samsung is coming out with a new one and a dual format one, but i am not sure the features for it are out so it is sill speculation right? I isnt sony coming out with some new one this year also? thanks for all the help
