Ok, so my family and I are finally traveling around now that the pandemic is chilling out. Well, that means leaving my fresh theater behind :( My wife said I should really look into finding a way to bring some sort of projector setup on the road! I kid you not lol. I'm not sure if I will or not but I'm kinda curious how I would do it.

The camper isn't exactly large, here's a couple really bad photos for an idea:

And one before we remodeled it on the inside

That ugly fabric bench thing turns into a table and I thought I could plug in a projector on it and shoot the image to the left side of this image above the little counter thing. Doing that wouldn't exactly create a lot of seating. The other idea is shooting it toward where those blue drapes are and putting up some sort of screen there. That way we could all sit on the opposite bed to watch. This is just silly though, right? lol. What do I do about audio on a campground? Headphones, a soundbar playing on the quiet side maybe. What about getting media? Wifi is sketch on campgrounds and they usually don't like you to stream video. I don't have much downloaded content but I guess I could download Netflix stuff to my iPad and then use an HDMI out to lightning adapter 🤷‍♂️

I could theoretically do it outside too but I'm a little worried about disrupting my camping neighbors that may be trying to leave all this screen stuff behind.

Anyone do anything silly like this? I'm thinking I'd need a pretty short-throw projector to get it done and it would be such an experiment that I would be looking used. Anyone have some good old short-throw projectors to look for? Bonus points for one bright enough that can serve double duty as an outdoor summer projector for neighborhood movie nights. That way if this is a total bust I can still put it to use.

See if you can find a high light output pico projector. I've got a Mirroir M279 DLP 1080p that I use but the foot lumens limit you to pretty much flat screen sizes. Still it's the heft of a cell phone so not much to lug around.

I think that's the biggest factor. You really want something that sits down or you can bring outside if you need to entertain a larger group.

I've been looking hard at the AAXA 4k1 to fit a purpose like this, downside is it has no HDR though
Use your cell as a wifi hotspot and/or use miracast through a screen beam, then bluetooth to a battery powered jam box type speaker, the ones with the little subs built in. Perf setup and mostly wireless.

I like the jam box idea and trying to do it all wirelessly. Unfortunately the hotspot won’t work since we have caps and even if we went unlimited, not unreasonable, the coverage is crap in the places we usually camp.

The pico projector idea ain’t bad at all. Doing a 70-80” screen would work well in the camper and be pretty neat but I’m not sure the pico projectors can do that. It won’t work for the outdoor entertaining though. But I like the idea enough I’ll do some googling
You should look at the LG Cinebeam line of projectors. We use one for camping/travelling and it is very easy to set up and use. Of course it's not going to be like a dedicated home theater, but it sure is portable and a lot of fun. We've done campsite movie nights with friends while visiting on the road. Link to LG Projectors.

You need a Vivitek Qumi projector. Just decide on how many lumens you want and the resolution. They're great little projectors. They have units from 250 - 1000 lumens. You can go 1080p but the 720p unit will do a great job too.

Use the projector audio out to a battery powered speaker from Ultimate Ears, Bose, JBL, etc. You can daisy chain multiple units for distributed audio and keep the over all sound level down so as not to disturb. Better still, invite your neighbors.
I saw a YouTube review of an RV that had two projectors in it, well actually it was one of those land yacht diesel pusher that had an MSRP $2.2m. I would look for a maybe used BenQ 2150st should be able to throw a bright, good sized image with the bonus of heating your camper.

What about using the outdoors and projecting onto the side of the camper?

Its an option for sure, I just don't know if I'd want to do that with some camping neighbors that may not want to see a giant screen in the somewhat wilderness. TBH, I'd probably want the setup flexible enough to be able to do both.

Got the link? I love watching ridiculous stuff like that

I really like this short throw real projector approach because it seems flexible enough for outdoor projection in my yard as well. The wireless battery powered mini projectors are tempting too though, just because of the simplicity of them. Hmm, good options...I'm happy I asked and the conversation is making me want to do it more.
