Hey fellow AVS members!

I known Funk Audio for at least a few years but have never actually purchased anything from them for quite a long time. So I finally took the plunge a few weeks back.
Since a line array is an easy way to get extremely low distortion and immense power handling I thought this was the best choice. Expecting a huge amount of dynamics :D

Note wood is Baltic birch. As for drivers, you will find out later

So I'm getting a speaker built by Nathan at Funk Audio!
You can check out his new website!:D

Btw, It's taller than you :D

Fair enough.
What are the details of the design, ie which drivers, how many etc?

Think those enclosures will be free from vibrations?

I'm looking forward to seeing the end result. One question... the youtube link mentions 'active', as though they're going to be amplified. They aren't passive?

Must be encouraging to see that Nathan's focus on your project isn't distracted by trivial things like yard work. :)
I will be anxious to see his handiwork. The samples Funk Audio pieces I saw at Joe's gtg were beautiful.

Are you going to set all this up in the same room as your projector? Going to drive the family nuts!
Yup, They are going in that room :D Vertical dispersion is a bit more limited on a line Array I think ;) Well at least according to James Griffin. can't wait for the end result either.

Yes, it is fully active and will have 4 Channels of Power, 2CH per Speaker/Enclosure

What an asinine answer.

2nd Video Will be coming soon!

Very cool & very interesting!
I think Nathan is really setting high standards and bringing innovations to the table.
Please post any/all videos re: this awesome project.
I appreciate these posts!

Edit: Also fixed so Youtube Links pop up correctly

Funk Audio Line Array 2 Final Edit - Needed to fix it a bit, re-render, and re-upload. Changed for timing of song and when Nathan got the strap locked :)

So what drivers will these line arrays be using? Ribbons? Domes? What models? Also, what amplifiers will be used and will they include the onboard active DSP for the crossover, or will they use an outboard crossover such as the MiniDSP or the DBX?

No Ribbons No Domes.

We will not be using DBX or minidsp either. Both are significantly more limited compared to what we will be using. By a LARGE margin.

Generally speaking, a 'line array' consists of multiple identical drivers so I'm not surprised you don't have separate woofers, midranges and tweeters. But you have now piqued my curiosity with regards to what you chose for the array, so it's time to spill your guts! :p

He has no guts to spill.

The driver choices were made by Funk Audio.

We chose drivers that have inherently low distortion. Mid sized woofers with good efficiency and high BL. Planars that have awesome horizontal dispersion all packaged in a line that gives the best possible combination of attributes.

Add to this active amplification and the ability to tailor the systems response to your room with our help and guidance.

We provide the surface area of two fifteen inch drivers on each side. And baseline efficiency that is just under 98db/watt.

Can you say a fun ride?

This post implies that you had a direct hand in the development of this particular set speakers. Do tell... :)

That would be because I work as a consultant for Nathan. I'm slave number one in the video.

Advice is not so good if your not willing to get your hands dirty once in a while!

I started out working as a cabinet maker away back when I had hair.

Still do it from time to time.

More fun designing speakers and drivers.
