Just so that everyone will know -

TIVO Series 2 Update

The meat of the message for those that do not yet have it;

New with this update: The TV Guide Grid, support for 802.11g routers.

The rest is boiler plate update info.
But notice the new advertising -

Now they have seen the light finally - channel grid guide like ReplayTV and the TIVO DirecTV version. I understand the channel guide is optional...but what is this ... support for 802.11g? Shouldn't the TIVO already support 802.11g if it supported 802.11b? :confused:

Interesting... Tivo is becoming more of a viable option every day!

I think so - 802.11g routers can downgrade automatically to b, no?
God, if it's a slow as my DirecTiVo unit at drawing that grid, it's still not worth it. Sometimes I sit there and just watch the little boxes fill in one at a time.

From what I understand this update is only for Series 2 boxes - which are more powerful.

Also notice the Copyright Tribune Media services all over the place - like anyone is going to copy that from their DVR box for other purposes. It would be easier to get it from the internet. Just another way to advertise in addition to the TV Guide logo.
Looks like I'm buying a series 2 pretty soon.

That solves my biggest issue with TiVo. Don't care about the red meatballs on the shows flagged to be recorded - I just can't deal with the TiVo style guide. And, if it comes with ads... so be it.

I'll be seriously annoyed by the lack of playback navigation (nn+Jump, etc), somewhat misty eyed over the lack of CA, mostly befuddled at the magic keypresses needed to enable the 30 second QS, and pretty much broke after paying for all the extra hardware and software options to make it broadband/home LAN compatible, but I think I can ultimately live with this.

Please use my user name, not my real name, when talking to me in these forums.

Thank you:)
