G15 and B&W movies.

OK I have to admit that most of the time Black and White movies are not my cup of tea. I have also been avoiding Black and White movies in my HT because I was slightly afraid that I would run into some of the common DILA problems with B&W material. Such as the green to red shift or contrast problems.

Well last night we watched Arsenic and Old Lace. It was awesome. I was suprised at how good everything looked. The whole show was great and now I can't wait to try out my To Kill a Mockingbird on the big screen!!! I was feeling very happy with my GrayHawk screen and G15 combo.

Things just keep getting better.

I am still thinking that it is kinda funny that I was avoiding B&W stuff because I was worried that it would make my large projector investment look bad. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

I'm sure I can find this somewhere, Cameron, but what scaler are you using. I will soon have my G15/Greyhawk combo...

I have many favorite B&W movies and I've been quite pleased by the picture quality, but my G15 has been calibrated so I've never had any color shifting or shading problems.

But I did notice that B&W movies look especially good with the Grayhawk screen. For some reason the shadow detail, black level and contrast improvements seem to show up even more with B&W movies and video games that with regular movies.

This was a pleasant surprise.

mblank,

I use a HTPC with a GeForce card. I am planning on upgrading to an ATI Radeon card soon.

Dean,

Yeah really I had to scrape my jaw off of the floor when I saw the picture quality of black and white. The shadow detail was excellent etc...
