I purchased a new remote for my sony G70 and cant get the projector to recognize the remote, is there a setup procedure to make this thing work, checked the batteries so forth, the remote on the projector works fine, I havent tried the s-link as I dont have one.

if your projector has the INDEX numbers on the back, you cannot leave it on the "00" position and have the ir remote work. set it at "01" and you should be all set.

Okay next question, how do I change the index number to 01

and by index number do you mean the index number on the screen menu that say 0?

There is a small manual switch on the back of the projector, labelled INDEX. This is what you have to check.
