Gamers: What do you put your keyboard/mouse on?

For those who game on their HTPC, what do you put your mouse and keyboard on when you play? I tried using the arm of my leather recliner, but it didn't work too well, mainly because the arm has a slight arc to it.

Any ideas?

I have a cheap plastic white adjustable tray table I bought at London Drugs - there should be something like that at Walmart and the like. I can adjust the height of the tray.

Unfortunately, it is just wide enough to hold the keyboard. For the mouse, the best I could come up with is a wooden tray table (not height adjustable though) from ikea to put beside the couch. Not an ideal solution. Playing World of Warcraft would be painful!
I use the Logitech DiNovo kb/mouse from my recliner. I rest the keyboard across my legs and use the mouse on the right arm. The mouse is optical and works fine right over the cloth fabric of the chair, even with the curvature. The arms are fairly wide and padded so it allows for a normal range of motion. I occasionally have to do the "pick-up/move over" routine to get all the way across the screen. Before I got the optical, I just used a small piece of plywood with a mousepad on it and set it on the arm of the chair. If you don't have an optical mouse, get one. They work on almost anything.
I have an artist's sketch board like this -

I removed the metal clips and velcroed the keyboard to the board. Plenty of room for FPS mousing, and slides under the couch when not in use - perfect.

Sounds like a good question for the "HTPC Gaming" area :p

here

I use a big coffee table and wireless combo personally. I couldn't imagine trying to use a mouse on the surface of a convex arm chair. You ain't gonna frag anybody unless you are really comfortable with full range of motion.

In other words you need a table, or a desk.

I use a lap desk I got from Levenger, its wide enough to rest on the arms of my home theater chairs.
Oh forget armchairs or using your keyboard/mouse on your lap. Bah, this is the 21st century!

I use a lift-top coffee table and it's the bomb.

I didn't find the actual model I have but it looks like this:

Get one, they are fantastic for gaming, surfing and for posting on AVSForum. :)
Cool, thanks for the info, the lap desk thing looks like a good idea. The lift top coffee table looks nice too, but wouldn't work in my setup, because I'll be using a recliner and don't want to have to sit up all the time.

Thanks again everyone!
Oh yeah I forgot, I should be on the edge of my seat making strange grunting noises and ducking in my chair as rockets fly over my head.. :)
I place them on my bed-like couch (I actually surf and play lying down - it's much less tiring on your neck and back). The keyboard goes on my lap, and the mouse goes on a mouse pad to my right. I look like a total freak with my keyboard and mouse lying in the middle of my couch, but it's worth it.
Been thinking about this myself and what I think we are looking for is a small beanbag with a tray attached. ie the bean bag molds to the contours of your legs giving a stable platform.

Would that be called a breakfast in bed tray?? Why yes! Google says so!

Maybe we don't even need the beanbag part....
