That seems odd, since the production technology at the time of first airing was somewhat less than today, doesn't it? Could these shows have been on film, rather than tape? Just a guess.


After all - garbage in, garbage out. Some older shows were just fine for OTA reception at the time, so to save money they didn't worry about the top quality production techniques. But I'm thinking you can thank syndication for putting some shows on film first, which was later copied to tape for distribution. Especially Desi Lou Productions. But I could be totally off base.

I think it has to do with the cameras--They needed more light and so the sets were very bright, thus meaning less shadow detail and color range--which would look good on mpeg compression.
