You still have a 16:9 image with top/bottom black bars, however, the image is vertically squashed. My Samsung T150 and Sony 36XBR400 combo can do this. Of course, when the stb output 16:9 1080i, everything is just fine. Bottom line is, whenever it sees a 1080i signal, the TV will do raster compression. Remember the signal is analog, the TV has no way of knowing if it is 16:9 or 12:9(4:3).
