I do not know enough to decide which card to buy.

What I need is DVI for 1280x768. And I do not play games, ie, I only concern video playback.

I know GeForce4 MX has something called VPE while Ti cards has HDVP.

Should I buy a highend MX or a lowend Ti?

Should I think about ATI?

I would also look at ati, they have IMHO the best 2d picture quality of any video card. That said, the GF4 MX series is little more than an overclocked GF2. They have none of the advanced features that were added in the GF3 and GF4 Ti lines. For your needs this may not mean much as most of these were for gaming additions.

I believe that the Ti series is better able to handle HD resolutions as well, can anyone confirm/deny that?

Nvidia cards are for games.

ATI cards are for everything else (9700 excluded as its kick ass for games too)

Get a Radeon for DVD playback.

From what I've seen, Nvidia cards (at least the ones using the Conexant chips) have much better s-video output quality.

Thanks everyone's input.

I read somewhere else in this site about a link in Tom's Hardware reviewing Radeon and GeForce4 Ti. I think I will get a ATI 9500 Pro as suggested there. I found it on newegg.com for $197 I think w/free shipping. And it has DVI. Is that a good deal or just normal price?

THanks again.
