I have four speakers for surround LR and surround back LF. One pair is better than the other. Should I put the better speakers in the back for the back surround left/right or will it better to have them as the surround left/right?

These will be in a 7.2.4 configuration.

Thank you

surrounds get more "action" typically than rears especially since more stuff is 5.x.x than 7.x.x typically when using all types of inputs (TV, movie disks, streaming, gaming, potential surround music) so as long as there isn't a spacing issue with size of the speakers the better should probably be in the surround spots imo.

Is this always true? I see some room setup's that have bigger speakers in the back than the left/right surround.

Not sure about always, but in everything that I have listened too, the sides are getting more action than the rears. Of my 4 surrounds, the "better" 2 got side duty, and the lesser two got back duty. :) If you can't simply experiment for whatever reason and have to make the (permanent) choice, I'd put the better speakers at the sides...

sounds like bumping the level of your rear L&R will help make you feel better. also, each movie is mixed differently, sometimes the audio engineer and the director wanted more or less emphasis put on channels 6 & 7 so it depends. sometimes watching movies, I've heard plenty of activity in the rear channels, sometimes little to nothing.

I suspect the speakers you have as rear's are probably fine. depends on the mix and the channel levels. best of luck bud. ;)

keep us posted.

I tend to agree with Jonas2 here. Between the two possibilities you are trying to decide upon. Of placing the larger and presumably more capable Speaker set between either of these locations: "Surround R&L" or "Surround Back R&L".

I would use the Larger Speakers for the Surround R&L position. In my experience there is more content sent to the Surrounds then the Backs. Also there are far more 5.1 mixes in Movies and Music that do not have any Back Channel content.
