best if you can have an accurate measure.


A movie theater is only about 50cd/m.

for well light room 200cdm/m is probably plenty.


for optimal low light veiwing something like 120cd/m is probably good.

You'll have to make a compromise depending on what you want to optimize for.


The lower the back light, the better black will look in low light, but the more washed out in high light situations.

As bright or not bright as you want for the viewing conditions, basically, after you set black and white levels properly to maximize CR without clipping or colorshifting.


If you have a meter you could target a particular brightness, but even then your selected target is pretty subjective based on viewing conditions and preference, so...
