Are there any general sound characteristics that each these two brands have such as thinness, brightness, etc.? This would be helpful to know in comparing them. Specifically, Studio 60 and Silver RS6.

Hard to say for certain because different people perceive the same speaker differently, but the RS series is a bit recessed through the midrange (vocalists sound deeper into the mix). However, the flip side of this is that when the midrange is recessed this also means the treble and bass are elevated in relation to the midrange. This could be perceived as brightness, if your ear/brain locks onto the elevated treble vs the recessed midrange.

The Studios are a more neutral speaker, but some have called them forward / bright sounding.

The moral to this story is that you really need to listen to both of them to see where you stand. Just be sure to bring a collection of your own music to the audition so you have a common reference point. I find it easiest to burn a CD with a collection of tracks from various CDs. Don't just bring your best music either, bring a variety that includes a good range of recording quality and instruments.

Good luck!
