This apparently came out in May in Germany from Koch, and I just acquired it in a trade.

The bad news is that it is a region B locked title;

the good news is that imo it looks way better than I thought it would.

Though the print has obvious dirt specs or something similar that pop up fairly often, the level of detail is fantastic.

This could have been a real disaster, but to me this transfer looks pretty damn amazing.

Color is excellent, and the daytime scenes look absolutely fantastic.

very sharp; not soft at all.

easily looks better than "Baron Munchausen" and "Life of Brian" bds imo.

Considering this came out in 1981 I believe, this disc may be one of the best I have seen of an early eighties film.

And it is a total classic from Terry Gilliam.

If you can play region B titles, I highly recommend this one.

(contains German DTS-MA 5.1 and English DTS-HD 5.1)

Cool. I may have to get this and try out my region free mod. Thanks for the info.

Edit: there's a UK release coming Oct. 5, 2009. Amazon.co.uk doesn't have much info on the disc. The German version has DTS-HD in German but just DD and DTS for English.

Funny, I was just thinking about this movie last night and wishing it was on BD. If it looks better than Munchausen, then it must be very good. I rewatched the Munchausen BD w/ a friend the other night, and was again impressed by how good it looks and sounds. I hope we'll get Time Bandits in Region A.

I just recently ripped the DVD to my media server. Nice to see this non anamorphic DVD finally scaled properly to my display. Would love to see this film done properly for Blu-ray.

The Criterion Collection DVD? I heard the Anchor Bay was anamorphic. But currently Anchor Bay/Starz! likes to use DNR/EE for their Blu-ray releases.

I too have been thinking about this movie lately in regards to having it on BD. One of my favorites. I was on the Amazon UK website to check this out so how much is 13.69 in U.S. money?

You can get region free hardware mod for the Oppo BDP-83. Basically, you just replace a ribbon cable and attach a cable to an existing header. I've tried R2 PAL SD-DVDs and need to try a non-region-A BD.

Yes, the Criterion disc. Good looking release, other than not being anamorphic.

Ha, good one.

I'd love to have a good looking copy of Time Bandits. It's one of those movies I watched over and over again all those years ago. Haven't seen it in forever, but I'd buy it on BD.

This is incorrect, the German version has an English DTS HD MA track. I had this title before and my receiver decoded to be lossless.

All I did was repeat what was on the German Amazon site. In fact, I had typed DTS-MA and changed it DTS-HD to match what they said: http://www.amazon.de/Time-Bandits-Bl...0248328&sr=8-1 No big deal to me since I wouldn't listen to the dubbed German anyway.

UK version doesn't release until Oct 5th.

German version is in Euros.

so look at above posted link and google Euros to USD (us dollars) for conversion calculator.

unfortunately shipping is the big issue from amazon.de

that's why group buys can be helpful.
