I placed an order for downfiring sub but I am considering changing it to a front firing model.

The reason is the floor is wood (crawlspace below) and that it is carpetted. I recently tried a 8" sub and I can feel the vibration in the floor if I stand close by but back at my seat not very strong bass, I had 6.5" sub front firing before and feels like that had more bass to it. Now I am upgrading to 12" sub, but I think the same logic would apply -- that I am losing alot of power to the floor.

I know one can put a piece of MDF or stone below it. Would that really help a down firing sub?
