I sold my trusty PT-AE4000U projector. I knew the deal would go thru for some time now and while researching replacement models, I came across this review: http://www.projectorreviews.com/projectors/pt-ae8000_vs_hc5020/

I've never owned 3D PJ and/or TV. Few Sammy 3D TVs I watched gave me a headache. Not sure if it was a relatively small 55" screen or the 3D active shutter glasses.

My passive 3D glasses experience is limited to movie theaters.

I think first and last 3D movie I saw in a movie theater was Avatar, and I really, really liked it.

My HT has a basic setup with 165" painted wall in a cave, so light is not an issue.

My decision to get a new PJ was not 3D driven, so if the 3D experience doesn't pan out, I'm not going to be loose any sleep over it.

With all of that said, should I wait the 5-7 months for new breed of PJs, or take a plunge and get one now?

I know electronics improve fast, and waiting for the 'best' is a never ending game. This timing sort of sucks because this is mid-cycle.

I guess I'm wondering if the experts on this board expect the new/next model to be evolutionary or revolutionary.

BTW, we watch about 1 movie a week and very few sporting events. Last season, I think I watched 2-3 season football games and of cause the Superbowl.

No expert here, but I am "anyone".
I guess laser, or hybrid laser might be in the mix in a year or two, possibly? You have to decide if your willing to wait and see. The main advantage the Panasonic has is the lens memory, so if that's not the top feature you need, I'd be looking at the Sony VPL-HW50ES. A nice all around good pj for a variety of content. The Epson is great with it's brightness and 3d, and I love being able to watch mine with ambient light in the room. Each have their own strengths, most detailed in Coder's top picks here. http://www.avsforum.com/t/1391476/coderguys-top-projector-picks

A nice review of 3 of the current $3kish range pj's you might want to read as well. http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/article/we-three-projectors
