Steve Carell is the perfect replacement for Don Adams. Its hard to tell whether those same comedy bits that were used forty years ago will stand the test of time, but one thing is for sure, this movie production sure beats the heck out of the TV version.

the opening shoe phone gag had me laughing and remembering the sudden punchlines of the show.
Don Adams was great in get smart. Looking forward to this.
OK, I want tickets for this NOW!

One of my all time favorite shows. This could be a lot of fun.
Hard to tell from just the trailer but I already see a huge problem with Steve Carell's Maxwell Smart -- he doesn't seem to have any of Don Adams' false bravado and undeserved cockiness. This contributed a LOT to Adams' Smart being very funny.

Like I said, too early to tell, and Carell can, and almost certainly will, bring his own brand of funny to Maxwell Smart. But I think people expecting Carell to channel Adams (and I think this is a LOT of people) are going to be disappointed.

[Edit] I've had a serious crush on Anne Hathaway for a long time, but lordy could she possibly get any hotter?! That is one spectacularly beautiful lady.
I saw the trailer looks funny. But, I hope they don't make max to stupid.

I bet they will. As most Movies based on Old TV shows are really poor and often very unlike the show.

One big thing that contributed a lot to the image Adams/Smart conveyed that you mention above were his "beady little eyes", especially when he would squint them. Carell doesn't have those - his are large and round and give him a sort of naive, innocent puppy dog look. I just can't picture him being able to convincingly pull off that mock, suave secret agent look.
why is comedy so forced in these so called comedy movies, this is probably going to be as bad as Steve Martin's Pink Panther and Nicole Kiddman's Bewitched....OH! the HORROR!!!!
^^^

Funny! Looking forward to the DVD. Although, after viewing those trailers, I can hear a certain crowd claiming it is anti _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _.
See less See more
What - un-"funny"?

I'll have to admit, from what I've seen, it looks more serious than comedic.

Totally agree!! it feels forced and gags will be telegraphed well in advance...just a feeling mind you...but that too is what I got from the trailer. He's not Maxwell Smart per se', just someone trying to play/portray the Maxwell Smart that Don Adams created..I'll give it a shot on DVD though!
See less See more
I bet a lot of us watched the show just for 99.

Anne Hathaway should do that role justice.

Nah, I watched it for the stupidity of it all. I watched I Dream of Jeannie just to see Barbara Eden.

Moi aussi.
I watched Get Smart for the humor. Period.

But I wouldn't call it "stupid" humor. A lot of it was pretty darned clever. I can't think of any other sitcom that still makes me laugh so much. It's on every late Sat. and Sun. night here, and I never miss it.
Yes, a great show I can't seem to find it on TV anywere may have to pick up the DVDs

so you saw the gun coming a mile away?
Man that trailer sucked BIGTIME. And Dwayne Johnson is in it so that guarantees the movie will be a failure.
