If anyones sitting on the fence for one of the best 480p players to ever be produced, you'd better jump on one now.

I picked up one yesterday from a reputable (authorized) online dealer as a backup for my XP50. The salesperson said they had

I ordered one from Crutchfield just avter midnight ET this morning. This afternoon, the online order status said it was on back order. I haven't called yet to get the details, I'll pass along what I find out.

Brett
There is another online retailer that has over 100 Denon 1600's in stock at a price of only $277 now. Do a search with pricegrabber.com to find it.

I ordered right around that time this morning and it became "Out of Stock" right after the order. I cancelled the order as I don't trust they'll actually receive any more units.

According to Denon's website, the warranty on Denon's electronic products is NOT VALID if the product is bought at an unauthorized online retailer.

There is a list of authorized online retailers in Denon's website.
When I tried pricegrabber.com, the lowest price was Crutchfield (not counting the sales tax, as I live in Virginia). Also, the warranty issue was a consideration.

I called Crutchfield this evening. They said that they will get more in, but didn't have a date yet. I guess I'll give them a few days to get a date.

Brett
When I first posted this, it was Crutchfield I was refferring to. Apparently their stock of 20 lasted just a few hours.

Not to ruin anyone's hopes, but I really doubt that they will get any more from Denon.

I hope at least some people reading this thread were able to make a Crutchfield purchase before they ran out.
which dealer is authorised and which is not? $277 is a good price but the question is whether this dealer is authorised. Some dealers really ding you on shipping costs also.
I called all 10 Denon Retailer today. All were out, except those you jacked the price up more that an extra $100 over Crutchfields.

Does anyone know what the new 2004 replacement model or equivilent is?

Will anything be out soon.

I need one this good now.

Scott, there is no direct replacement for the DVD1600 from Denon. See my original post on why this is "the one" to get.

I believe that Denon lists all of its authorized dealers on its website. You'd be better off trying to find one at a local store.
According to the Crutchfield web site, they are expecting more on 9/26. We'll see.

Brett
There is also an authorized Denon resller that has stock of "refurbished" Denon DVD1600s that have full warranty. They put listings for them on EBAY all the time, but also have a direct website for ordering - I think their pirce is around $350.
The Denon press release last Friday did not mention the 1600 in there line up.

Is it discountinued? Is that why Crutchfields is out?
FWIW, when I called Crutchfield about my back-ordered 1600, I asked if they were discontinued. The guy said no, they were just sold out. Who knows?

Brett
Is there anything that comes close in price and video quality that is a current model?
Several come close but none match or exceed the Denon 1600 except the discontinued Panasonics. The new models with Faroudja chips add more features but have softer image and the color flicker bug.
I see 6th avenue (an authorized Denon reseller) shows the DVD-1600 in stock and have dropped to price to $298 with essentially free shipping.
I've ordered 1 from crutfield last Wensday and supposed to be in the 24th of September. I hope everything works out and I get 1.
I also asked Crutchfield about this player being discontinued. They claim that Denon would have informed them if this were true and say they have not been so informed and assured me that my pre-order (yesterday) would be honored.
I cant believe this. 6th Ave just ran out also.

Everyone is SOLD out except for those selling them with a $100 extra mark up.

This must be the Hot DVD player to get.

6th Ave is taking orders saying they have a few in the wharehouse and WILL ship them Sept 23rd.

Crutchfields is also saying they will ship them the 24th but they want $30-50 more.

With all those good Pansonics long since Disco'ed and the MANY lock up problems with the Bravo- this is the one to get ASAP.
