Getting a new Plasma. Please Advise...

Hey guys,

Well my dad finally got the birthday present he's been wanting for some time. My Mom gave him the money and the "go ahead" to buy a plasma! Pretty sweet if you ask me because I make out on this deal too!

Anyhoo, back in March we finished setting up the Audio portion of our home theater area. The only thing that was lacking was our video. Currently, we have a Sony Rear Projection 50" TV.

While I am rather adept when it comes to technology this is a BIG purchase and I definitely don't want to screw it up. Therefore, I'm asking you guys for some help
.

Here's the deal...

We were pulling the trigger on the Panny TH-58PX600U. However, we kept second guessing the choice due to the lack of 1080p. The problem is, the Panny 1080p panels are out of our price range, therefore we'd have to wait before we get the TV.

Another issue is the viewing distance of the room. The distance is roughly 18ft. Therefore, I think a larger display, such as the above Panny, is a much better choice than a 50" 1080p set...no?

Finally, how does the Vizio 60" compare to the Panny TH-58PX600U? Should the Vizio even be considered? Or does the Panny's quality (both picture and build) destroy the Vizio?

Any help is appreciated!

At that distance, I would go with the TH-58PX600U. You will not see the difference between 768p or 1080p at that distance. I would also pass on the Vizio.

Considering this is a dedicated home theater area, and that you'll be 18 feet away, you have to go with the bigger model. There's no way you can see 1080p at 18 feet, even on a 60 inch screen. And from 18 feet, a 50 inch screen will look tiny.

From that distance, you'd rather spend your money on size than resolution.

Agreed, also keep in mind all 1080P devises can be down converted right at the unit so there is no worries......
The Th-58px600u is a quality display, and at 18ft I wouldn't get hung up on the issue of 1080p.
Done deal.

Thanks guys - the 58" Panny was ordered and should be here this week!

Thanks again!
