Came home, forced a dial-up.

Figured something might be up when it spent an hour downloading a few dozen Replay Zones. Haven't seen it do that since 2.0.

Now, it says it's 7% done downloading the new software.

Can't wait!

About 2 hours from 243-Zones to being able to do a 411-Zones.

It is indeed 3.0, quite apparent from the logo changes.

I've gotta go play now.

Seems like not everyone is getting it at the same time. I Net Connected this afternoon about 5pm EDT and also got an hour of new Replay Zones and then it just hung up with no new software. I immediately connected again during which it went through everything fast and the check for new software returned nothing. Just Net Connected again, got another Replay Zone and the check for software got nothing.

Guess I'm lower on the list. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/frown.gif

I forced a dialup and got the software too. If it helps,

I live in Sacramento, CA and bought one of the original

2004 models.

Here are a few things that I noticed while playing with

the new software:

1) In the replay guide, if the title of the episode is

longer than the size of the entry in the guide, after

about 5 seconds, the title starts scrolling automatically.

2) For those of you who hate having a 10 hour limit on theme

channels, I have good news! You can set the size up to 99.5

hours!!

3) Sort of the same as #2, but the 7 episode limit for show

channels has also been changed to 99 episodes!

I will post more after I have had more time to play with it.

What do you think of the pause screens? The issue was totally overblown...I like 'em!

Day of week recording is nice...(note the underline in the guide to show you what has that option selected)

Padding rocks...

New UI is much friendlier/easier on the eyes

AV sync seems dead on...

time for more play!

Yes, I too have been downloading Zones for almost 2 hours now. I can only imagine that 3.0 requires that the Zones data be encoded differently, and that therefore it is necessary to re-download all the information afresh, as when one connects the unit for the very first time.

Just an FYI.

If your downloading & it seems hung at a certain %. Just leave it be.

It can hang for awhile, but trust me, it's running.

Don't stop it, you'll just have to start over.

Wow, Jumping to conclusions so soon.....

I think they update by serial number, & I'm betting it's random.

Those of us that remember ver 2.0 remember the long waite we had to endure? all of the forced dialups? All of the complaining by CWoody? http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif

Please be patient people. It's just a software upgrade, You will live thru it.

No update yet on my RTV3020 or the Showstopper 30 hour downstairs, must be a gradual rollout. I don't want to admit how many times I've forced a connect http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif

I don't think it's like that at all Mikey, I won't ask you to be patient, cause I'm not but I don't think it's conspiracy or second class citizen situation *at all*.

For the one stuck at 11%: Yeah, it sits there for a long time. I remember 2.0 had a similar point where it seemed to get "stuck."

My first brush with 3.0 wasn't so exciting. Rack it up to failing eyesight, but somehow, I managed to miss the "Record options" button on the record screen every time I went looking for it. Shoot, now that I see (from another thread) that it's really there, I wanna drive back home just to look at it.

For what we get today (before the roll-out of the my.replaytv.com service), this seems more cosmetic than most things. The only function changes I could really detect was the addition of "Manual Record" to the menu, and (I'm told, 'cause I'm blind) the new record options option. And, FWIW, a while back (just for giggles), I enabled Play Continuously in the CFP, and that's still enabled.

The rest seemed to be a facelift. Screens are a little more transparent than they used to be, but you're still not going to see center-screen action. The horizontal scrolling is nice - seems to work both within the program grid and the list of recorded shows. The exit-from-pause-ad feature works as advertised, although I still don't see what the big deal is (although I must say, I don't watch those stations that some of you might want to pause).

While desperately searching for something new, because hey, I was kind of let down that I couldn't find the record options thing, I went to the menu and brought up the "Setup" sub-menu. There was an item called "Register"

I've got to ask: Has that always been there?

Basically, call the 800 number or web site, give the serial number, and it says that that new features of 3.0 will be "turned on." Does that mean the my.replaytv.com stuff? Because my memory is obviously failing as fast as my eyesight, I can't seem to remember if the register screen was there in 2.0, and whether I already did that.

What the heck? I moved recently, so I went and registered (or reregistered). After the prime time recording was done, forced another connect to see if there would be anything additional after the registration. About the only thing I saw was right after connect, and before "Setting clock" it went through some "checking subscription" check very quickly. Then, it downloaded more zones, and left me with an e-mail telling me that my dial-in number might have changed, and to rerun setup.

I really do wish that 3.0 had come with some "Welcome to 3.0; here's how to find the new features" message, although no one's going to miss the fact that it's a new version.

Oh, and one other oddity:

Did you guys at Replay boost the amplitude of the video out?

I have my RTV repeated to another room via a cheesy 2.4 GHz link. This thing's video out is way too hot, meaning that anything really high detail picture (like a ReplayTV screen, or a commercial with a text overlay, etc) has serious audio problems. You know, video bleeding through to the audio.

Up until now, it was largely an issue of getting audio noise when doing Replay screens, since I don't watch commercials any more.

After the 3.0 upgrade, I noticed that watching live TV had a lot more of that bleed-through noise than before - to the point that I couldn't hear dialog on some shows.

I fiddled with repeater antenna placements with some luck. Mostly, I gotta either put an attenuator on that thing or find a better way to get the signal into that room.

Just wondering, that's all.

Hats off to the Replay team! I forced a connection last night before going to bed after reading here that 3.0 was apparently coming down and sure enough, when I got up this morning, there was 3.0.

The interface is definitely "cleaner" looking that 2.1, and manual record comes just in time! I needed it to program in Law & Order tonight... the listings still show a ball game. Recording days is a very welcome addition!

Again, well done guys!

Few comments:

- Relax, upgrades are slowly rolled out randomly throughout an entire week, can you imagine the server load if everyone got it on the same night? It's not a conspiracy..

- toots: the registration option is brand new, but they never gave us many details about it yet, and was not available for testing. If you already regged your unit when you bought it, I doubt you need to do anything. It's mainly for new owners who see that and are encouraged to register, because yes, you must be regged in order to use the upcoming myreplay.com functions, afaik.

- download 'hangs': My guess is that the progress bar is only updated after each file is downloaded so the CPU doesn't have to worry about updating it WHILE it's downloading. There is probably one big file in there that holds it up around 11%, and I bet it jumps right up to a higher percentage when it starts again, right?

- release #: I think that it was to be called '3.0' because myreplay.com was intended to be included in this release, making it a big deal. But that one piece has slipped considerably, so it lost a little of it's impact.

- What's new message: We did get one at the beginning of the testing, so I would bet you get one within a few days, after everyone has received the download.

My ShowStopper ties up their servers for an hour getting new Replay Zones that I could give a phuck about but it can't tie up their servers to get the new software.

Ok, so filter during the busy overnight regular call in's but why not let a Net Connect outside that busy period download the software?

From someone who is pissed about the selective download.

Huh? What has that got to do with anything? I connect to their servers just fine. They are just not giving me access to the new software.

My point, perhaps made too subtly for you, is that if they are selectively downloading the 3.0 software in order to control their server load, they are failing miserably since they are tying their servers up anyway with downloading tons of Replay Zones to even those who cannot get the software. This is penny wise pound foolish in their customer relations.

And my other point is that even if they feel they must filter during the busy times at night, they don't need to filter during the day when the small number of people who know about Net Connect could then get it. But I guess I am not really that surprised. I'm not as impressed as some others by the decision making at ReplayTV.
