Getting rid of windows login screen?

557 Views 7 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  mattress
I have my HTPC configured to automatically load MyHTPC at startup, but cannot seem to figure out how to disable the windows login screen. So I have to get out the old airboard just for this login. Once in MyHTPC I can use my MX-850 for all navigation and auto launching of TheaterTek. Any input is appreciated.

If you have just one account, no password for it and the login screen started appearing after the security updates in the last 6 months or so (i.e. it was bypassing the login screen after WinXP+SP2 only install) - remove the ASP.NET user account and the login screen will disapear again.

Diogen.
Well, you need to have only one user account on the machine, including the ASP.net account. And in The [User Accounts] Property Sheet On the [Users] tab, clear the [Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer] check box.

Click [Apply].

There other options if you google "disable Windows XP login" you should come up with several options, particularly if you have more than one login.

***Edit*** Diogen beat me to it by a few minutes.
tweakui - a microsoft powertoy - has the option to automatically logon a user. Try that if nothing else works. Has worked for me in the past.
start, run, "CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2" --- select the user account from the list that you want to use --- uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer", and click okay --- type the user account password.
Thanks Everyone for the quick replies. Will do!!
start/run

"control userpasswords2"

uncheck "user must enter password blah blah blah" checkbox. It will ask you which user account you want to use to login automatically..
