Getting started with calibration

I'd like to be able to calibrate my OLED and plasma myself. Is there a way to get started that's easier than full-blown professional level calibration or is it all or nothing?

OLED is the deep end of the calibration pool. With all the differences in these sets and their peculiarites over the past 3 years or so, they keep even the pros guessing. You can buy a test/calibration disc and tweak a few limited things by eye, but that's about it. That really isn't calibration, though, but advanced setup. To do the best job, you need equipment and software.
I would start with a good calibration disk like Ted's Calibration Disk (SDR) so you can at least set Black levels\Brightness\Color and then progress from there.

Start with SDR as HDR is a whole new ball game. Don't touch HDR until you have done a lot lot more playing/research etc.

It took me months to get into the full thing (ie meter calibration) but the results are well worth it.

Reference Disks:
Ted's Calibration Disk
Spears & Munsil Benchmark HDR Disk
DVS (Ryan Mascior) HDR Disk
AVS HD (free download)

Perhaps start with AVS HD patterns as its simple to use and then progress to Ted's disk which really is the SDR reference.

Hi, see there: https://www.avsforum.com/forum/139-...splay-calibration-pay-learn.html#post55567396
Ok it's deep as I suspected. My only video source is a computer so starting with the AVS HD download makes sense. Is this it?

Even that looks pretty deep! Hopefully it's ok to just play the files without burning them to a disc.
