Trying to get some shows off my ReplayTV 4080, DVArchive starts but the DVR "crashes" (at least seems to lose IP connectivity) before the downloads finish.

I popped the drive out to run extract_rtv (v 16 under W2K). I was using the "extract" Windows GUI, it bombed out with "Run-time error '62': Input past end of file".

I tried running extract_rtv manually, it says all partitions pass integrity checks.

When I pull a directory with -d or -dv, I get a listing, but it's garbled. From fragments of text, it sure LOOKS like my drive, though. I tried to extract one file that was in the directory, got:

===================================

C:\\Program Files\\Extract>extract_rtv -e 909259520.mpg

This looks like a ReplayTV 4000 series drive!

Enabling the byte-reversing code

ReplayTV drive detected: \\\\.\\PhysicalDrive1

Couldn't find the file '909259520.mpg'

Here's a sample of the verbose directory listing:

The program guide listing code for extract_rtv only works for 3000 and earlier units. They changed the format of that file in the 4000 and later units.

I think all of the necessary details of the new file format are known, so extract_rtv could be fixed to work with the new units. Source code is on rtvpatch.sourceforge.net ;)

So: extract_rtv 16, as it stands, should know how to extract a file from a ReplayTV 4xxx disk but NOT how to read the guide, is this correct? If I read the guide with something ELSE, should the program still be able to copy it off?

From my example, when I tried this I got a "Couldn't find file" error back, it is likely that the .MPG filename itself was not correct as extract_rtv returned it?

(Appreciate the pointer to the source code, seriously, but unless it's written in Visual Basic (doubt it!) I don't think that it'll do me much good. I assume that this means that you have no interest in having it read the later versions of the guide yourself?)

Correct, extract_rtv version 16 can read the filesystem and extract files from 4000 and higher drives, it just does not know how to interpret the guide file. I suspect that if you extracted just the guide file and used the replaypc tools on it, you could get a listing, but I haven't tried this so I don't know for sure.

Use the command "extract_rtv -p2 -l" to get a directory listing of the files on the MPEG partition (partition 2)

Then use the command "extract_rtv -p2 -e NNNNNNN.mpg" to extract one of the files listed.
