1 hour of low quality recording takes 1 GB

1 hour of high quality recording takes 3 GBs

I have a 120 GB drive, record everything at high quality, and have 40 hours of space total. I've never filled it completely - even when on vacation.

I put in a 120 Maxtor 8MB buffer. This gives me 60 hrs. (everything @ Medium)

There has been some talk about the 2MB vs 8MB buffer, and if this gives quicker response times. I THINK that I am getting a slightly faster response in remote operation. However this could be due to the increase to 7200 RPM drive.

I also set the acoustic management to QUIET, and this may have slightly reduced its potential performance gains. However, the drive can not be heard over the sound of the fan.

If I was the only user of our ReplayTV, I would have just used DVArchive, but my wife uses the RTV and the PC does not always have DVA running.

So this was our best option.
