Looking to find a good 5.1 or 7.1 Receiver for about a $250 budget,


Was looking at the Onyko SR304/SR504 or the Pioneer VSX-816


Was thinking of getting a S790 HTIB, but decided to get a Decent Reciver and Decent speakers that will be better than the 790 for just a little more.


Only going to go with 5 speakers now may get the last 2 later on.


Any advice would be appreciated!

You've probably got 2 of the leaders at that price point already listed, might want to add the panasonic xr-55 also which is a great receiver for the price. I'd forget the 304 though. It is a great receiver for the $100 price tag but it's limited on inputs compaired to the others. Between them it would be preference, you won't go wrong eather way.

Hows the Panasonic Compared to Onyko's & Pioneers in terms of sound quality?

I am considering the panasonic 57 which sounds identical to the 55. Comments about this receiver is that its (too) bright but very accurate and a great choice for movies. Other reports says the receiver gets less bright with time (just reporting what I read) and that its also good for music.

$169 atm but I got mine for $129 open box @ Circuit City.
