Hey Everyone-

I realize there are a buncha sections I can post this, but I selected this one since my question is pretty htpc oriented. After alot of tweaking of my system I have decided to finally make the plunge and get an hdtv, but I hsave no clue what to get. I'm looking for a reasonably priced hdtv to hook my htpc up to. I've been looking for few weeks and the only one I've seen that looks good for its price is the Samsung TXN2668WHF (avail for 599 at sears). Before I go and spend all my savings on this tv, anyone have any other suggestions on an hdtv for a limited budget?? Thanks alot everyone in advance!

I can't tell you what you should or should not get; but You can't go wrong with a Mitsubishi.

You can get a WS-48313 for $1500.

Assuming that you are assembling an HTPC with a Hi-Def tuner card or with a video card that has VGA out, the cheapest HDTV is a larger Computer Monitor.

Most modern computer monitors can display full size 720p and some degree of 1080i resolutions.

For example, you can pick up a name brand 19 inch CRT computer monitor for about $130.00 on sale at a big box store like Best Buy. Check often for sales. I use salescircular . com for all of the computer monitor and hdtv sales in my area of the country.

My HTPC:

My old Pentium III 600Mhz computer, a cheap DVD-ROM drive and an AccessDTV high def tuner card ($199.00 including a good indoor antenna and a cable), and a MAG 19 inch CRT monitor from Best Buy for $129.99 after rebate.

When the prices come down on large screen HDTVs with built-in tuners I will eventually purchase one (1-2 years down the road) but for now my computer monitor gives me a nice, cheap High Def viewing experience in a spare bedroom.

FYI, the AccessDTV card is nice. It supports hi-def Tivo-like recording options and timeshifting, mainly thanks to a group of hard working volunteer developers. And the included indoor antenna is one of the best for over-the-air HDTV reception, reportedly much better than some of the "Amplified HDTV Antenna" junk that is selling for $100.00 and up. Just make sure that you have an unobstructed full-length PCI slot available in your computer.
