GOOD NEWS on Panasonic DMR-EH55S!

12963 Views 73 Replies 30 Participants Last post by  ncaahoops
I just got off the phone with Panasonic in an effort to find out when and if, indeed, the Panasonic DMR-EH55 is shipping since it seemed that it might not ship.

A gent named Ray said, and I quote, "The EH55S is on my list and is shipping at the end of the month." I thought he was referencing June but he said, "No, the end of this month, May."

So it appears the EH55S is on track folks! Someone here said the "S" in the EH55S stands for a silver-colored unit and I have no reason to doubt that.

Thanks snazz123! I will also contact Panasonic and post their reply here.

I also just called Pnansonic. I'm waiting for an EH55 as a warranty replacement for my E85 that died in January!

The woman to whom I spoke also said the end of May, which is also what they told me when I last called 2 weeks ago.

So at least the timing hasn't slipped in the last 2 weeks.
This is an e-mail I received from Panasonic today in reply to my question on whether the DMR-EH55 would be available in the US and when.

"Thank you for your inquiry. The DMR-EH55 will be made available in the United States. We are anticipating release by mid-June.

Thank You,

Panasonic Consumer Support"
So HWD3 and Breyean -

With your dates of "end of May" and "mid-June" and my "end of May the EH55S should be shipping in the next 2-4 weeks!

Very little info when you Google this model number but that should change real soon. I noticed Crutchfield has literally no Panny DVRs and they used to have several. I would think that "taking advanced orders" should start popping up from the normal retailers soon.

Cheers!

Panasonic Releases Cutting-Edge DivX Certified DVD-Recorder Devices; New Multi-Purpose Players Enable Users to Play Back DivX Video

SECAUCUS, N.J. & SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 17, 2006--Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company and DivX, Inc., the digital entertainment company that created the DivX media format, announced today that Panasonic will incorporate the DivX codec into two of its 2006 DVD-Recorders. The DMR-EH55S DVD-Recorder with HDD and the DMR-EH75VS DVD-VHS-HDD Recorder bring a range of popular functionality to consumers, including the playback of DivX encoded video files.

Both models feature HDMI single cable connection with up-conversion to 1080i. The Panasonic DMR-EH55 is a DVD recorder with a 200 GB built-in hard disc drive, SD slot and DV Input. The Panasonic DMR-EH75 is a combo VHS-DVD recorder deck with an 80GB built-in hard disc drive. They provide very versatile solutions to users who want extreme flexibility in the formats they use for content delivery.

Products that bear the DivX Certified logo have undergone a rigorous testing program to ensure interoperability, security and visual quality. DivX Certified products enable consumers to create, play and share high-quality video content across a range of devices and platforms.

"These innovative multi-function Panasonic DVD recorders, combined with our DivX video technology, enable users to watch a wide variety of compelling content, how and when they want," said Bill Holmes, Vice President of Consumer Electronics at DivX, Inc. "We are excited that Panasonic has expanded DivX into their recorder line to bring this solution to home theaters around the world."

"Continuing our commitment to providing the consumer with the best quality performance from their DVD recorder, Panasonic is utilizing DivX technology to insure that the user maximizes their experience," said Alberto Reggiani, National Marketing Manager for DVD at Panasonic. "These new devices allow users to playback and record video, but with DivX, consumers also can access an entire world of quality digital video."

As posted elsewhere (sorry for the redundancy)-- I too was wondering WTF about the EH55. I also wondered why the EH75VS wasn't available direct from Panasonic online.

So here's what Jennifer Hunsicker, Customer Service replies:
We have not received enough inventory of these two new models to be able to post them for sale on our website. You can however contact our sales department by phone at 866-375-1407 and place an order with them and receive the club panasonic discount. I am very sorry for this inconvenience. We are expecting them to be available online the beginning of June.
OK, so I call. The salesperson (Nate) says they have them both now, not online, but by phone. WooHoo. But alas, no, he was mistaken. The warehouse computer tells him now they are due "6/28"... Major league WTF?

So the long of it is you may see the EH55 the end of May, the middle of June, or the end of June. Or when hell freezes over.

Wake me when we're back in Kansas.

PS: I decided to place an order anyway since Nate thinks they will have them sooner, like in a week. (That's consistent with some of the other end of May guesses). So if it does miraculously appear, I get it shipped right away for $476 delivered. Big whoop.

June 28 would be a major disappointment! Funny that the Panny people cannot be on the same page with their information. Thanks for the information!

The way all the companies from Japan are going with their HDD models there just lucky that China hasn't flooded us with HDD models & it makes you wonder how many lost profits they might have already had because their more expensive HDD models were not available.

I'm guessing at this rate we won't see the 55 until after July 4th
At long last the EH55's are now available at J&R - and it looks like at Abt Electronics too. I noticed the change in status on J&R's page this morning. It went from "on order" to "usually ships in 1-2 business days." When I called to confirm they said yes, they're in. Hooray!
More good news.

Or maybe OK news.

Panasonic direct has shipped what it had in stock of the EH55. Mine has shipped and should be here before June 2nd.

(Of course there's bad news too. They are again "out of stock"!! So unless you had an order in their system, you won't get one until supplies are replenished...)

I'll post some comments as soon as I have a chance to give it a test drve.

Michael

PS: as I type this, I am waiting to hear if the one I put on backorder at J&R is "in" ... I could end up with TWO!! (Theirs is lower cost too, :p you might see me on eBay if so!)

Just got the email from J&R that my EH55 has shipped and should be here on 5/30. Finally!
Nuts. I ordered Friday, and it still said 1-2 days, but now it says out of stock, and my order status is "processing". I guess they went quickly.

I saw them on the Vann's website yesterday, too.
Is the EH55's the Top of the line model for Panasonic or is there a better models to come???

Does anyone know the model #'s . I don't see them on Pannys site.

THANX
Street price is going to be around $410-450. I've seen it once for $415 shipped, but they raised the price. I bet in a month or two they will be $399.

As far as I know it's the top of the line. I don't think anything higher has been announced as of yet.

The EH55 was not listed on their website as of yesterday. The EH75 is.

Where's your report? :)

J&R shipped mine today, but I won't see it until next Tuesday. It's replacing my DRM-E100, so it won't be a huge upgrade, but I hope I'll like the on-screen TV guide.
