Hey guys I've decided sat speakers just wont cut it for me so I'm goin semi-big or goin home. What do you think of this setup. I think i need a more powerful receiver but I'm checking here before any upgrades. This forum has been a huge help in the past so I've come back. Thanks guys.

Current setup idea is...

Denon AVR-591 - http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/produ...29cae19fefen02

Polk RTI A5's..or A7's depending on how much better they sound - http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/produ...3e07e30b7fen02

or

http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/produ...55e27f727ben02

Polk CSI A6...or yet again maybe the A4 depending on how much better the A6 is - http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/produ...9c81217b4ben02

or

http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/produ...260df6c08een02

and eventually getting Polk RTI A1's as surrounds. I'm also contemplating getting these first with the center and a 10" energy sub instead of the towers. Can't really decide... If im getting them for the fronts ill prob upgrade to the RTI A3/A4s

Let me know what you think about everything. Help is much appreciated thanks in advance guys.

I'll post this for the bazillionth time, LOL...but if you want MAJOR bang for your buck it will be extremely difficult to beat an SVS 5.1 or 7.1 speaker system. Check 'em out here:

You can thank me later. Great speaker systems, especially for the price. Customer service second to none. Emails often answered within minutes (or at least a few hours)...on weekends, no less! Superb company.

I'm not sure what they charge to ship to Canada but check out the OneCall deal on discontinued Boston Acoustics VR3 towers with matched VRC center. The VR3s have plenty of bass by themselves for music.

You'll still want a sub for movies. When shopping for your subwoofer you'll want to size it to your room. That includes any spaces that open into your room. Elemental Designs, Hsu Research, and SVSounds will all help you with sizing the sub.

The price is good on these. I bought the RTi10 (same drivers and layout as Rtia7) at a similar price a couple of years ago but ended upgrading within 7 months. You should spend sometime listening to them to make sure you like the sound. For the price in large towers they are one of the best...but the parts I don't like

1) The bass is lacking even though it has 2 large woofers. The crossover is very low at 125hz which leaves very little for them to do and much of it in the sub sonic.

2) The mid range can get muddy at moderate volumes. Once again the low crossover leaves alot of the lower bass to be played by the singe mid driver.

I have heard the RT1a5s and prefer those especially with a sub. Once again this is all in the ear of the beholder and have gone since to a more detailed neutral sound that I prefer.

Hey guys, thanks for all the feedback. Just a few things I want to keep my purchases threw futureshop, I get everything at cost there ($900 towers for $240, etc...). Upon further listen I'm now stuck between a Yamaha receiver and energy towers, or a denon with polk. I do LOVE the neutral, natural sound of the energys, but I can't help but love the crispness of the polks. I know they're a little bit unnatural sounding but I kind of like the unnatural life that brings to movies. Then again the energys i auditioned were surprisingly fantastic. The only other speakers that compared were my dads paradigms and the $2400 martin logans. I guess that's all preference but I guess the real question is if I was to get any of the towers would a mid-class receiver from yamaha or denon suffice or should i go all out on the receiver for maximum sound quality. My room isn't very big so volume is not an issue. Thanks for all the help guys.

Funny I went with energy when I was unhappy with the Polks. Which ones are you looking at. I have a full set of rc for 5.0 and the polks in surround back paired with a denon and velo sub. Which energies were you looking at? For music I perfer the energies by alot but for movies it evens out except concert blu rays.

Biggest difference in AVRs is features and not so much sound quality as long as you get a decent one.

with a mid-range Denon for the polks, and yamaha for the energys. Tough choice when i go listen to them they each can their pros and cons.

So you are going 3.1 with book shelves right? It is a personal preference. On of the big difference would be one has a silk tweeter and one metal. Maybe listen to that part only and decide on which one you like better. If one is even slightly off to your ear you might have fatigue on long listening.

Why are you matching different speakers with different amps? Is it a package deal?

ok guys lol I went and properly demoed all the speakers and must say I don't like 3.1 with bookshelves. I think I've decided on the energys although im not 100%. They sounds great with the blu ray that was on but I love how bright the polks are. My FINAL decision is..

ok screw this im getting the polks. Now should i pair them with a denon or yamaha. I'm thinking denon because i heard they're less harsh in the highs than yamaha, and seeing as these are polk audio speakers i think i should tone them down with a denon.
