Just received a Sanyo PLC-XP46 for $50.02 from my local university surplus. It was sold with a "needs repair." Watching a movie they had playing on the projector, the condition wasn't too bad as there were flickering artifacts in the picture, but not something too serious. (at least, not for a college student)

After playing with the regular settings on the machine, cleaning the filters, blowing some of the dust out of the inside, I still can't figure out how to fix the artifacts. What's weird is that after the projector runs for a while, the artifacts slowly disappear. Sometimes the resolution makes the artifacts go away. Sometimes bringing up the menu brings them back. It's really hard to figure out. I've tried the DVI, VGA, and component cables with them all having a little problem, DVI having the worst problem.

So, I was wondering...has anyone had a problem that sounds similar to mine? I can try to provide a picture tomorrow to show you guys the problem. Maybe someone has a service manual or knows how to access the service menu on this projector?

Thanks for the help!

Ok, I took some pictures of what the picture looks like. (try to ignore the wall i projected on, it has a poster on it)

One of them is during the 30 second countdown startup.

One is right after the countdown is over when the bad lines/pixels run rampage.

And lastly, one is a closeup to see what what's going on.

Anyone know what the problem is? Or have an idea?

(I am a junior in mechanical engineering so I'm not afraid to get my hands inside or use the service menu.
