I bought a Pioneer KRP-500A 2 weeks ago and last night i watched Matrix in Blu Ray.

I feel a sleep and when i wake up the movie has ended and it was in a still frame menu. I counted and it was there for 50 minutes more or less...

I got so scare because i turned off the screen and i saw some kind of shadows (the matrix menu has the green letters from up to down).

Then i putted the movie again and it didn't seemed to burn the screen or have ghost images...

I called the house where i bought the plasma and they told me nothing happened, it didn't burned for shure because these plasmas have some proetection mechanism but to plug off the plasma for 6 hours and to turn it on again to make a reset.

Just for a note i have the contrast set to 30% only.

Anyone has experience with still images on Pioneer Plasmas?

I want to apologize my ignorance but i really don't know how a plasma screen can burn in a certain place and cause ghost pictures....

I was told to me that this problem only happened until the 7th Generation of Pioneer, and from then the problem was solved...

I would like to hear someone with experience in this matter....

Tank you all

Have you tried running the Video Patter (white bar scrolls across a black screen)?

Sorry Larry i didn't get your point...

Do you mean it doesn't burn?

Once i saw a Pioneer PDP-5090 with a Samsung Demo in a store, and the samsung logo was marked on the screen because it was turned on hours over hours.....

They told me it was plasma so they could't do nothing about it...

Then in the store where they sold mine (KRP-500A) they told me that in the PDP-5090H that doesn't happen, only in the PDP-5090 without being the "H" version.

Image retention is a fact of life with plasmas. Permanent image retention (burn-in) is not. Also, do you normally watch your plasma when it is turned off or on?

larry

So pretty much what you're saying is that a little IR happens, but you'd really have to hose something up to have permanent damage?

Hi

I did that when the plasma was 8 days old.

They adviced me to do that once a week. This process won't give any wear to the screen with the time past?

Always heard conflicting reports about Video Anti-IR patterns, but I do not believe it will give shorten the life-time of the TV unless you are running it for hours every single day

Hi

No, i don't run it for hours.

I will run it "once a week until the plasma has 100 hours more or less and than from 3 and 3 months or something....

I am very carefull with my TV, sometimes when i'm watching TV i change the pciture format so the logos are not in the same place everytime, and i use it maybe 3 hours per day maximum.

First, Larry is correct, all Plasmas will have Image Retention (IR) left over after you turn off the set but it will go back to normal. Burn-in is a different story and that is perminent but you won't find any burn-in issues with the latest top-tier brands. They've figured out how to combat burn-in so don't worry, it was just IR.

As for the 500, the rumor is that they have 10G technology in the 500. I assume you are in Europe since we don't have the 500 "A" in the states, just the "M" version.

Hi Flyers

Yes it is the KRP-500A. The 500M is just the screen i believe...

From now what i will do is to turn on the temporizer in case i fall a sleep watching movies at night so there is no problem at all.

I love Pioneer plasmas, specially this 500A.

As for the USA you may not have the 500A, but your plasmas come with "Elite" written, i love it.

You also have things that we don't believe me

Yes, the Pioneer plasmas are a thing of beauty. We don't have the "A" version which has an internal tuner. Also, the 500m or A are not labeled "Elite" however they do have some of the Elite features.

As others have said, you had IR. It is something inherent in plasmas including your kuro. Just avoid keeping still images on your set for a long period (in your case 50 minutes or more).

By the way, while it is rare and difficult, you can get burn-in. Just be mindful of keeping those static images on your set especially when new. Review your owners manual for specifics.

I own a 6 year old pioneer 433cmx and have paid little attention to burn in possibilities from day one.No problems whatsoever in this respect.Yes if I watch a show with a logo it may show up the next day on a blank screen but thats only image retention and it goes away as soon as i put something else on the screen.

Tanks for the advices

I've been treating my plasma like a baby, and now that it has more than 50 hours of use with brightness in 30, i think i will go up to 40....

I believe that won't hurt it....
