(GPS): Hard wiring to cigarette lighter ??

I have a Magellan Maestro 4040. I have my Satellite receiver plugged into the cigarette adapter that powers off when the ignition is turned off. So I had to plug my GPS into my other cigarette lighter / power plug and it doesn't turn off when the ignition turns off. I am currently just unplugging it.

Can I just splice the GPS power to the back of the cigarette lighter that my Satellite receiver is plugged into ?? That would mean there would be 2 things running off the one plug. Didn't know if that would blow a fuse.

If that isn't feasible, is it possible to make my 2nd power plug turn off with the ignition ?

it is possible, but i wouldn't recommend it. if you want to tap into a wire, locate a switched wire somewhere under the dash and use a t-tap to splice into it. these can be purchase at most car audio stores or electronics store. i think i even saw them at walmart. as for making your 2nd power plug turn off, maybe. the fuse panel in my car allows for constant on or switched ignition on depending upon where the fuse is plugged in at. check with your owners manual to verify this is not an option for you. hope this helps. good luck...

thanks for the tip. The T-Tap sounds like the best and easiest way.
