Woo hoo.....finally XBOX is getting a port of a games that've been out on PS2 and PC for a couple years.

Seriously though, I'm not sure how well these are gonna sell on XBOX considering that they've been out long enough where if anyone wanted to play them they probably already would have. I'm still a little confused how Rockstar could release the GTA games on XBOX as I thought they had a contract with Sony to keep the GTA series exclusive on PS2 through 2004. Maybe they renegotiated their contract.

That "POS" you refer to has jus shipped 60 million units worldwide. Apparently most people seem to think it's a decent gaming machine.

It's much easier for M$ to go around saying how much better their machine is since they released it a year later with newer technology in it and are selling it at a HUGE loss.

Nevertheless, the GTA games is a big win for XBOX. Anyone who hasn't played them on the PC or PS2 should definitely check them out. They're very fun.

Regardless of how well the PS2 has been hyped, it is still inferior to xbox. from a hardware and capabilities standpoint. My PS2 is sitting in a closet (with my GC) collecting dust since I got my HDTV. I don't care what game it is, I can't bear to look at the ps2's 240 lines of resolution on a 52 inch screen. I found the PS2 graphics to be blocky and annoying on a 27" screen as well. If knowing that PS2 is outselling xbox makes people feel better about themselves, or sleep well at night, then great for them. Those of us who appreciate quality will play xbox, or get an HTPC (which is truly the best IMO).

Most XBox gamers are PC gamers as well. I understand why MS wants to have such big titles on the XBox, but I doubt most Xbox gamers care.

I wish they'ld stop investing time in the PC ports and started devolping high quality original titles. The Xbox really needs more RPGs depserately.

There aren't enough A+ titles.

Hey spelosi,

My point being is that everyone keeps saying what a POS system the PS2 is, when it's actually not. It may not have the prettiest graphics, or the best sound, but it's got it where it counts, and that's the games.

Of course XBOX is technically superior to PS2. M$ sells it at a huge loss and had a year more to develop it. My point wasn't to say that PS2 is better than XBOX or vice versa. Just saying that the main reason PS2 is probably selling so well is because it has more AAA games than any other console.

I own all 3 systems myself and my XBOX gets the least play of all of them, and yes I do own an HDTV and sound setup. Gamecube gets the most play cause I tend to like Nintendo games more than any others.

Davefi, it's interesting that you say that most XBOX gamers are PC gamers. I would probably want to say the opposite. Since most XBOX games are ports of PC games, why would a PC gamer want to buy an XBOX? I don't have a gaming PC, so I have an XBOX so that I can play some PC games that get ported over to XBOX along with some original XBOX games.

Nevertheless, I think the GTA games will sell ok on XBOX, I just don't expect them to be huge sellers(compared to Halo or Splinter Cell) because the games have been out for a while on PC and PS2 and that covers a HUGE chunk of the gaming population.

Their exclusivity contract with Sony was near expiring, and Rockstar struck a new deal with them to allow these two older GTA games to be ported to X-Box in return for making GTA4 a PS2 exclusive (for a limited time, anyway).

I think the PS2 had it's place, as does the GC. I will have to say the Xbox is hands down the greatest system when you take into account the online gaming. They have a great 1st generation online system that is only getting better.

dschroll,

I agree that PS2 does not have very good sound or graphics, but I disagree when it comes to the games. Most games now-a-days come out for all consoles, and most xbox games are not ports of PC games, some are. The best version of any multi-platform game will almost always be on xbox. Also, when PS2 was brand new Sony was selling them at a similar loss. I remember all the news channels making a big deal about it.

Savageone79,

The reason my gamecube is collecting dust is due to a lack on intriguing titles. I enjoyed the RE games, but mario was too kiddie, and Metroid got boring (not as good as Halo). I wouldn't touch Zelda, becuz that series stopped interesting me about a decade ago. The gamecube does have nice visuals, but many games are not widescreen/480p.

I gave all the systems a try, and the only one that gets active play is the xbox, although it has been taking a back seat to 1080i gaming on the HTPC lately.

Dschroll,

You mentioned "huge loss' twice on hardware for MS. HAve anything to back that up with? Heck off the shelf the parts for an XBox are under $200 these days.

MS stated the Xbox was $225 when it came out to produce. BY now thats probably cut in half. Cannot back it up as MS has not released numbers but its not hard to add up the PC components its made of.

I have GTA for PC and it was fun, though I got bored playing it at mt PC> For $50 I'll pick the double pack up, its WS after all and should look decent (if a tad dated).

One thing I have hated about Sony's gaming machines (both PS and even PS2 which I was surprised at when it was released), is the slow ass CD roms they put in them. They always take longer to load any games compared to Gamecube or X-box. Hopefully they will buck this trend with the next playstations, as right now Ill opt for a Multiplatform game like Madden 2k4 on my Gamecube or X-box over the PS2 due to the crappy load times.

Just on the 'PS2 can't compete graphically' sentiment.

My Xbox is by miles my prefered machine but I've been playing a pre-release version of Jak II: Renegade in progressive scan on my Sony projector and I've got to say it's arguably the best looking game I've seen yet released on the next-gen consoles.

Most of the PS2 games don't look as good as the XB and GC games because they don't run in prog scan and they don't find ways to get around the PS2's crappy texture memory. Jak II takes advantage of the PS2's strength - pushing a lot of polys - to great effect.

I'm sure that some of the XB and GC Christmas releases will look just as impressive, but I also know that the new range of prog scan enabled PS2 games will bring the PS2 a lot closer to the XB and GC performance on high-end TVs.

I'm excited to play these games on my Xbox, even though I've played both of them through to 100% on the ps2 (VC twice!!). I traded in GTA3 for VC so It'll be worth it to me to buy it again. Enhanced resolution, higher poly models, etc are just icing on the cake!
