Great prices on HS-2

921 Views 17 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  jerrymc
I stumbled on the Crazy Eddie web site
http://store.yahoo.com/crazyeddieonl...homdvdpla.html

and found a great price for the HS-2 and other DVD recorders.

Anyone with opinions about this e-tailer?

Jeff, be careful with Crazy Eddie. They aren't that reliable. Have a look at customer comments @ resellerratings.com & audiosurvey.com
All i know is they are not an authorized e-tailer for panasonic. Plus you cant price match that price with Good Guys, Crutchfield, ABT electronics, or Best Buy.

If you read the fine print on their site, they claim they do not sell used, refurbished, or grey market goods. Yet they also state that they are not an authorized Panasonic dealer. Kind of makes you wonder where they aquire their stock from. Beware.

On resellerratings.com, people praise crazzy eddie. People seemed satisfied with the stuff they purchased and they said it got their on time.
Whether crazy eddie is good, crazy, or both - I don't know. But $747 isn't that hot of a price anyway. I got mine from an ebay vendor (who has multiple units listed all the time) for $749 plus $15 shipping (flat shipping rate anywhere in the US). The vendor has 1800+ positive feedbacks and 0 (zero) negatives! I received it in 1 day, but I'm in a neighboring state. I just ordered a second one, for reverse engineering purposes.

Well ebay isnt a reliable source of buying stuff as well because there is no warranty on the item. Plus no returns. Not so safe.
I use profeel.com and never had a problem.

Well that's an overly broad generalization! eBay isn't the source per se, the seller is. So, the reliability is as good as the seller's reliability. The seller I bought from is an authorized panasonic dealer, has a return policy, and even included an original rebate form for the 10 free dvd offer!

Oh i wasnt shooting down your statement. PLus i was refering to the seller. I am saying is that most people on ebay are just some store sellers or an individual. Some cant be trust where as some can. Its a risk but if your lucky, you will get a great deal. But there are no guarantees.
Are there any stores out there that we can price match best buy on? that are offering it for cheaper?

(cheap HS2 + 13 months interest free + 100 gift card would be very nice :)

Wow, that's the same price I just got from my local guy at PC Richards. He said that $746 was 10% above cost. I then bought the 5 year warranty on it for a measly $99 because it was registered as an ordinary DVD player. The only bad thing was that I had to pay tax but a $918 total w/ 5 yr warranty is not too bad right? Oh, and I also got 0% interest for 12 months. Merry X-mas to me :)
So who's the ebay seller? I'm thinking of getting another unit soon...
Justin,

I just bought one from (it sounds like) the same guy. Ebay seller ID is barneyselectronics. Haven't received it yet, but he's definitely the best price on Ebay for a new factory sealed unit. And no shipping charge gouge!

Regards,

Jerry
Yesterday, i purchased the HS2 at my local PC Richards. They had it for $999 but i made them price match it with Crazy Eddie. It worked. They gave me it for $747 with a 2 year warranty. I think i got a nice deal.
Yep, you did good. I got mine for $780 shipped from an eBay seller a month or so ago.

Here is another reason why with ebay there is no guarantee. This is an article on the CNN.com

Definitely a cause for caveat emptor. But not just with Ebay sellers. This could happen with any online seller whether it's Ebay or just someone with a website. For that matter, beware of catalog shopping too. Anytime you can't carry out the merchandise as you make the payment you take a chance. Play it smart and pay with a credit card with a limited liability agreement. Either that, or only shop at Brick and Mortar stores.
